Thumbs up Man arrested for 'keying' cars: Soo Yo KIM

Chantal Eustace, Vancouver Sun
Published: Monday, April 21, 2008

METRO VANCOUVER - A 31-year-old Coquitlam man who police describe as a "one-man wrecking crew" could face about 100 mischief charges after police caught him in action today, keying a car parked in east Vancouver.
Shortly after 3:30 a.m. a resident of the 2800-block of East Sixth Avenue called police to let them know about a "suspicious person by a vehicle," said Vancouver police Const. Howard Chow.

Since officers were "acutely aware" that someone has been keying hundreds of cars in Metro Vancouver, Chow said, officers were quick to respond.

"They got the eye on him as they call it; watched him commit an offence; and when they went to arrest him, he ran," he said.

But police, who were accompanied by a police dog, tracked the suspect down and arrested him. The suspect was treated for minor dog bites.
A Vancouver Police news release Monday said Soo Yo Kim of Coquitlam faces two charges of mischief under $5,000 and is in police custody. Police said he is the "prime suspect" in over 400 car-related mischief incidents over the past three weeks and said they estimate the damage could range from $250,000 to $1 million.

Investigators believe he may have "some issues with ICBC, but don't know the specific complaint."

Good. I had a feeling that they'd never catch the guy. I wonder if ICBC will sue him for all the claims?

I'm moreso curious as to what his motives were for commiting this crime.

I don't think they can make the other charges (location stick).. Unless they have video/ finger prints etc.

They are more than likely to release him on his own recognizance.. just like the guy who threatened to shoot everyone at UBC yet he was allowed to write his exams? WTF!?

You might want to go through your logic for doing that first.

In Beyond.ca case it has been proven that "the claw" stole the car, we cant' prove the guy did the cars. At least with information we have publicly.

So many people are gonna have bones to pick with this guy

Question though, how can they be sure it was him who did all/most of the cars? Not like he was going around keying his name into them..for all we know, it could've been random patches of people hearing about other people doing it and seizing the opportunity..or am I missing some info?

KT: well i can't say for others but i am almost 100 percent that he did ours because he was caught the same night + the area he got caught was near me.
and i'm not sure about the tagging of his name, i gotta check my uncles car out, but he told me the douche wrote his name on his car or something like that.

oh man... i can see the vigilante justice that's gonna happen now...

They published his full name and rough area of residence (coquitlam) in the newspaper... people are going to figure out the exact location of this guy through the power of the internet sooner or later...

i wonder what's going to happen to his cars...?
