Powdercoated my rims

My advan's were getting kinda beat up from use so I decide to powdercoat them. I found Rainbow powdercoating in coquitlam. Also, convienently there was a metal stripping place right next door B&W metal strippers. They pretty much work together so you can drop your stuff off at either location and they'll take it from there. Very friendly people, sandblasting was quick and took a couple days. However I waited about a week and a half for the rims to be coated, I guess he was busy with other jobs. So I picked up the rims today and I'm fairly happy with the finish (matte black with 40% gloss) but it's not perfect, there's a faint orange peel but I think with a good wet sand it'll turn out nice.

It cost me $380 total so I can't complain, $260 for blasting and $120 for coating. Overall I thought rainbow and B&W were great, being friendly and easy to deal with was definately a big selling point for me.

Hope this thread helps with people that are considering powdercoating over painting.

Before:

After: (sorry about the dust on the rims, didn't wipe them)

They look good, and you can complain about anything when it only cost $380 for sanblast prep AND powdercoating.

He must have really rushed the paint job if he managed to leave some orange peel with powdercoating. Then again, $120 paint job, can complain. I wonder if they would take their time and do a better job if you slipped him an extra $50 or something. I personally cant really see any orange peel form the pics. Obviously in person it would be easier to judge.

Powdercoating is much cheaper.

He took quite awhile to finish them so I don't think he rushed it, but again for the money it's pretty awesome.

$380 per wheel or total?
I'm assuming each wheel.

Just cause he had them for a long time doesn't mean he was working on them the whole time. Probably had them stashed in the back of the shop, since its a low price job, he was busy doing more profitable jobs. A week later, he happened to notice them and said, "Damn, I better just finish these and get it over with" and finished the job in an hour.

Trust me, I know how shops work.

Dayum, for all 4, fuck the minor orange peel, that's a dirt cheap job.
I personally would have slipped him another 100, and said take your time please, and avoid orange peel, if I was picky.

See, This is a nice honest review on some shops out there

For the priced you pay, I would never complain about the work. Especially at that level of finish they had. I'm tempted to do it.

I didn't have any curbage, I don't think they do that type of wheel repair there unfortunately. You'll have to take it to Green's or any other wheel repair shop.

is powdercoating stronger than regular painting? I went to Panther's machine LTD in surrey, they charged me way more ($600) including fixing rim scratches..

my dad owns a powdercoating company. washing, drying, spraying, and curing takes maybe 1 hour.
