Race the Base Speed Challenge 2012 is an amazing opportunity to compete in or witness some of the world's fastest vehicles competing against each other in a head to head format. With the full co-operation of 4-Wing Cold Lake, an active Canadian Forces air base, we have created a unique, world-class experience that is not to be missed! We are expecting upwards of 100 entries in five competitor classes for a very entertaining event.
The Event Format
Main Events: Known as Race the Base Points-Chase Events
While the final number is yet to be determined, up to 100+ competitors in 5 classes will get at least two opportunities to participate in each event. Competitors will accumulate event point scores on a relative basis for their class, determined at the end of scheduled competition. Using a weighted formula of 30% for the standing mile, 30% for the ultimate top speed challenge, and 40% for the road course challenge, we will determine the over-all class champions. We will also award individual event awards for the top score in each event/class. Note: Final points system. (TBD)
1) Side by Side "Standing Mile" - With recorded elapsed time and top speed - 2 runs minimum including Friday's practise run. A heads up race against the clock and the competitor in the other lane. The finish line is very close the the centre of the main runway for excellent spectator viewing opportunities.
2) Individual "Ultimate Top Speed" Attempt - An individual two (2) mile acceleration run with recorded elapsed time and top speed - 2 runs minimum including Friday's practise run. Competitors best run will count towards their over-all class points score. This event separates the real performance machines from the rest of the pack!
3) Dual Road Course "Time Attack" Competition - A timed solo run on a challenging road course, run on either of two equal but different courses against the clock and simultaneously run against another competitor. Competitor selection may be based on similar class entries or random selection. (TBD) Competitors will get at least one run on each course layout including Friday's practise run. Expect low and medium speed action with spin-outs, missed cones and fierce head to head competiton. With no warm-up laps, it takes accuracy and skill to achieve the lowest time. Over-exhuberance will end up costing more than one competitor the win they desire!
The event was a ton of fun and had as many safety measures as it could have and in total raised over $100 000 for charity. One competitor brought his 1300HP Toyota Supra to race the fighter jet, he lost but he still hit 382kmh. I was lucky enough to participate in the event, I hit 300kmh on the runway for the first time which was quite an experience. I thought you guys would enjoy some photos and videos I took at the event.
