So BCAA has changed my summer to winter and winter summer tires every year for the last two years. I called in today and they said they never do it and that its probably just the driver doing a courtesy. I told the dispatcher I called in specifically to have the my rims swapped out every year and why is this year any different. She said she will get her supervisor to call me back. (My winter tires are already mounted and balanced on my winter stock rims)
1hr and still waiting...

In one hour you could have already done it yourself twice. You are on an automotive website and won't even swap your own wheels?

Not everyone on RS wants to change tires themselves. If you do great that's your preference. I prefer otherwise.

Changed over this morning.
I took me 16 minutes total using the spare tire jack (as my proper jack is at my other place). I torqued the lug nuts down with a torque wrench, and I'll re-torque them in 100 kilometers or so as a precaution.

Got my winters put on last week, and not a moment too soon. That very night we got 6 inches of snow up at my place. Kept it out of 4x4 for a little while and decided to have some fun But, man... so glad I've got four wheel drive. Tried going up the switchbacks on my road in just rwd and it wasn't doing very well. Swapped to four wheels and voila... not a problem at all.

Winter tires? If we see snow in the next 2 months in the lower mainland I will be surprised. Rocking 35" mud tires allllllll winter. Won't even use 4x4 unless I go snowboarding.

Some of us like to be able to maintain decent stopping distances, safety first...

I can understand not giving a shit if you don't plan on leaving the city, but that is no bueno on an icy highway. Its pretty rare to encounter a ton of snow on the S2S but the last 30 minutes of driving is pretty slick, and pretty busy. Not somewhere thats good to be sliding around.

I remember driving down to Seattle a few years back and travelling the I5. Lots of snow had fallen the day before and the highway was still a little slippery in the mountains. There I was, trundling along in my slammed GTI, and my girlfriend at the time and I counted no less than ten SUV's and trucks that had slid off into the ditch. |

That's because people think no matter how inappropriate their tires, no matter how inexperience at snow driving they are, as soon as they snick that little lever into "4hi" they are unstoppable.

It was also a true comment, which also hurt your feels even more. | So it was true... or you lied? I also grew up driving in central alberta, snowboarding 40+ days a season since I got my license, so I'm well aware how knowing how to drive in the snow on race tires is probably better than an idiot with winter tires. Someone who isn't an idiot on winter tires is my ideal situation though.

Winter tires aren't an extra cost, per se. The net tire wear is roughly unchanged whether one uses winters/summers or all-seasons, so why not use the best performing arrangement?
