US Suzuki distributor files for bankcruptcy

At least there's still bikes. I never really cared for their cars.

Quote:
U.S. Suzuki distributor files for Chapter 11 - MarketWatch
The U.S. distributor for Japanese car maker Suzuki Motor Corp. has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, and intends to stop selling new Suzuki cars.

American Suzuki Motor Corp., which is the sole Suzuki distributor in the continental U.S., said it intends to wind down and discontinue new automobile sales. The decision to exit the automobile market reflects challenges that include low volume, a limited number of models, high costs, and stringent state and federal regulatory requirements, the company said Monday.

"While the decision to discontinue new automobile sales in the U.S. was difficult to make, today's actions were inevitable under these circumstances," American Suzuki Motor said in a statement.

It added all warranties will be honored, and automobile parts and service will continue to be provided through the company's network of dealers.

In a realignment of its operations, the company plans to focus on motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles, as well as marine products like outboard motors. It intends to continue selling its off-road motorcycles, scooters, sportbikes and cruisers.

Suzuki, which specializes in small vehicles, gets the bulk of its sales from Europe and Asia, including India, where it holds a leading market share.

This. -and Jimnys, too!
I don't know of anyone on clubsx4.com who didn't want a real Swift or Jimny.

Suzuki North America really pisses me off.

i think their kizashi is a pretty competitive car in the segment... just they lack advertising and marketing than the larger brands..

Cheapest AWD car + Good value. (Bad resale value, but doesn't matter if I plan to drive it for a long time)
I also love it because it was one of the few affordable cars that had AWD + standard transmission. After taxes I paid $23,000. Not bad.
SX4 is also the only car that I know of that can switch between 2WD to iAWD to AWD LOCK (50:50)... AWD lock is tons of fun in the mud for my little car.
I also had 0% financing with mine. Warranty is just ok. I think it was 5 years.

When I looked at the base lancers and found that their interior was a lot cheaper feeling than Suzuki's and that was a total turn off for me. I liked the rally art and evo, but those were out of my price range for new cars.

Now, see... If Suzuki did what people asked them to do and brought over the Swift and Jimny, I think that they probably wouldn't of had to go bankrupt. The Jimny would do well competing against the Jeep Wrangler as a cheaper alternative. WTF is this Kizashi shit? Good car, yes. But mid size cars have tons of others to compete with.
