| Warning Re: Fido Contract Renewal If you sign a contract renewal with Fido before the end of your existing agreement, the new contract will not begin until the current one expires.
In other words, if you upgrade your phone with 11 months left on your existing contract, your indentured servitude to Fido won't be over for nearly four years since the renewal doesn't kick in until the 11 months remaining on your existing agreement have been fulfilled.
This may be evident if you read the fine print in your contract (and I'm sure someone will reply with, "yeah but you shoulda read the contract!1!!"), but I am 100% certain that this was not explained by the rep who sold me the phone and urged me to sign the renewal. There was zero mention of the fact that I was really adding 3 years on to my existing commitment, not "restarting" a new 3-year term.
Surely I'm not alone in interpreting the word "renewal" as "beginning a new 3-year term at the date of signing"?
Anyway, just wanted to let people know this in hopes it will help you avoid taking it in the ass from Fido like I did. |

well it actually makes sense if you think about it. Let's say you sign on for 3 years for an iPhone. Then as your example, 11 months left you renew your agreement for 3 years for a new phone. If your new 3 years starts at the time you upgrade. Then it just made your original agreement 3 years minus 11 months. If you keep on going contract after contract , eventually the number of years will not add up. Because in total you're supposed to be signed up for 6 years, but in your case it'll actually only be 5 years and a month.
Whether they told you or not is a different t story lol. Posted via RS Mobile |

r u sure?
they adjust this when you upgrade...because you technically pay an early contract termination on the remainder of the plan on top of your upgrade.

Yea, Fido stacks your contracts. Early renewal doesn't mean your new contract supersedes your original one.

When the iphone 4 was released, those sneaky bastards changed the policy on contracts.
They've been stacking contracts for a good two years now or so.

Yep, they stack your contracts. I didn't realize until 1 year later signing for the iPhone 4 when it first came out.

this was actually a good thing for me when i got my galaxy nexus for free (using fido dollars, and renewing a 3yr contract) because shortly after, i cancelled, and they only charged me the ecf on my old contract ($100 because only 5 months left) and the new contract never came into effect.

to alot of people who are unaware of this. there is a way out of fido contract early. if you sign a contract with rogers. rogers will waive all your early contract termination fee at fido. and it works from rogers to fidos too. you also get to keep your phone number.

From Fido to Rogers, all you have to do is sign a new 3 year
From Rogers to Fido (last time I checked which was over a year ago), there is a $100 'fee' to switch (since Fido has cheaper plans in general).

hmmm... by signing or renewing your contract.. you are on the new economic inducement.. and it's effective right away.. so either yours is messed up or there's something wrong.. as much as i rarely renew ppl i just switch them companies but no it should be the new economic inducement. the old ways were stacking yes. but the new structure no.

I called to switch over from rogers to fido. And the rogers lady ended up matching the plan almost... everything is the same but only unlimited canada wide texting instead of international.. But I pay $3 more so its $60 instead of $57 BUT, I got 3 GB LTE data instead of the 2 GB LTE.
