just curious, how much did you spend on track days last year?

i really want to learn on the track but i can hardly afford a one piece, not to mention the lessons, track fees

You gotta start somewhere. Buy your proper gear, you need it for the street anyways. You don't need the most expensive stuff, find some gear on ebay, craigslist.. etc. I just bought a nearly new 1 piece on ebay for a little over $300.00.
then move onto lessons, Westcoast Superbike School 2006 Track Daze At Mission Raceway the classes are very affordable.

You don't want to know what I spend on racing and track days. If you're interested in becoming a better rider I suggest hitting the track somewhere, sometime. Even if you don't take lessons you will learn a lot.. a lot more than you would on the street. Personally if you've never done a track day and are a new rider the best place to upgrade you skills on the cheap is out at Pitt Meadows. Pitt Meadows Track Days | Good Times, Huge Track, Great People and a Sick way to spend the day! I'm usually out there helping as a safety rider. The bike and equipment requirements are relaxed and you can do the whole day for under $200.00.

track days can get pretty expensive if you're going down south. the costs of hotel + hauling the bikes down can definitely add up.

we go to the ridge every 2-3 weeks during the summer, sometimes for back to back events on race weekends. it's usually around $189 per track day + $100 in fuel costs per truck + 45/each for hotel + food

thanks for the info guys, i'll definitely pick up some proper gear first. I have textile pants right now that don't zip up all the way around the waist and i heard that's no good

once i do that i'll poke around the local tracks...

you'll need something that zips up for sure. your waist/hip area takes a lot of beating during low sides and the last thing you want is your jacket riding up and exposing your skin lol

I was actually about to advise the opposite in terms of going and getting lessons before you hit the ground running. Bad habits are more difficult to shake once you pick them up as opposed to starting with a clean slate, doing everything with proper technique the first time. It takes more work to backtrack and fix things. It's just nice to have that reassuring feeling when you have no clue what you're doing out there.

I would always advise getting lessons, especially if you're new.but imo If you're not going to get lessons you might as well go to the track, you're going to learn more & faster than just commuting from starbucks to starbucks.

For track leathers there are a few used suits at http://rerides.ca/

Also check BCSB classified section, they often have suits listed a guy names BROSKI sells off a few suits each year he is a US size 40.

As someone told me once 'Just get a Joe Rocket one piece, cheap and good for track days'

Also if you plan on track days remember

Ralph's Leathers
22352 Lougheed Hwy, Maple Ridge, BC V2X 2T4
(604) 467-3000

He can sew almost anything back together , do alterations or put in new zippers on your leathers. He is honest and prices are great. A friend has crash tested some of Ralph's repairs and they held up.

Rider error? What do you think ... I would put this 100% on the rider.... he had SOOOO much time to cautiously approach that intersection when the van crept out... he can see he actually got ON the throttle in the intersection to zip past the van on the right side.... the rider got a TON of heat for posting this, especially as somebody had loaned him the bike... thoughts?
