yeah, those trannies are kind of rare, check out vancouvercivics.net. he can use anything from a 99-2000 civic SIR (only the sir model) another integra GSR from 94-01 or if he wants to make his car slower. integra LS or RS from 94-01.
and if hes made of money a tranny from a 97-01 integra typeR will work as well, this one comes with and LSD.
or he can phone me up at honda and order a brand new in box typeR tranny for $4000

used sir gsr trannies go for anywhere from 700-1500 depending on what condition the gears are in. and used typeR are usually 1000+

Thanks Jeff, we think the sycnro's are going, really rough and hard going into the lower gears. We figured may as well check the price of a "new" tranny first since I dunno what's common and not with Hondas, in case just throwing a new one in would be easier/cheaper than fixing it. Tuesday after class we'll stop by some shops and get quotes on a repair/rebuild. He's trying ti keep it under a grand if he can.

wouldn't a b16 tranny work too?

dont forget to ask acura, then you know its fixed right the first time. door rate might be a bit higher, but you get what you pay for.
having said that, id personally find used and see if i could upgrade
a civic SIR or integr typeR will both give the car shorter gearing and therefor fastar.
