and jeffh isnt being a dick. a poser is usually the guys that own bikes because they are cool or because they want to be seen on a bike. those are the guys that get themselves hurt the most because they dont wear proper gear (shorts and a beater are way more badass to roll to the beach with), the want to show off any chance they get (because they want to be seen on a bike. just like the guy that does ricer flybys everywhere or BOVs at everyone), and they usually dont have the skills to ride properly because they are only riding to be a poser. the true "motorcyclists" are always learning and improving their skills and usually wear proper gear and rarely care about doing a wheelie infront of gyro.

you dont want to put a bunch of money into a bike you are almost garenteed to dump either
fuck up the farings on a beater first, then buy something rad after youve had your first crash and have some respect

i wouldnt even go new. buy a used bike, if you find a sport bike for a good deal, buy it. even an old honda f4. but a cruiser would be much better choice for a starter bike.
this is my motorcycle history, started when i was 18/19.
first bike was a 1985 gsxr 750 ($2500)
second bike was a 2002 yamaha r6 ($9000)
third bike i was turning into a track bike, 1999 yamaha r6 ($1500). i ended up selling this bike part way through the build, just didnt have the money to complete the bike
my 4th bike was a 1999 yamaha r1 ($6000), in some ways it was almost like i was going backwards from a 2002 r6, to another yamaha that is 3 years older and 10x the mileage on the bike.
my 5th and current bike, 2009 ktm 690 smc (11k)
my 6th and also current bike, race only. 2006 ktm 450 smr ($5500)
now if that wasnt a trip down memory lane, i dont know what is.

Well it'll probably be 2 years till I get a bike.
I don't want a bike and the Miata during the summer, that would be 2 so unpractical vehicles lol. I'd rather just get a reliable DD/winter (Civic/Yaris/w.e), then have a bike.
But I'm not bored of my Miata yet, so once I do get bored I'll probably part it out and pick up a bike.

Well looks like I should take out a good life insurance policy once i insure my bike.

Mike we're going to probably need a few days of steadily pissing down rain. Last I heard portable propane stoves were banned too; I assume it's the same in Kelowna?

you heard wrong Quote:
Open Fire Bans in Kamloops Fire Centre
Open fire is defined in three categories. A Category 1 open fire means an open fire that burns piled material no larger than one metre high and one metre wide. This Category 1 open fire ban includes the use of campfires.
A Category 2 open fire means an open fire that burns piled material no larger than two metres high and three metres wide, or grass over an area less than 0.2 hectares (2000 square metres) in size.
A Category 3 open fire means an open fire that burns material in piles larger than two metres high and three metres wide, windrows, or grass over an area larger than 0.2 hectares (2000 square metres) in size.
This open fire ban applies within BC Parks and to all public (Crown) and private land outside of organized areas. This fire ban does not apply within municipalities or regional districts that have their own burning bylaws. Please check with your local authorities before lighting a fire this summer.
Campfire Bans in Kamloops Fire Centre
Effective at noon on July 24, 2009 and until further notice, campfires are prohibited in the Kamloops Fire Centre. This is in addition to the Category 1, 2 and 3 restrictions already in place.
This open fire ban is in effect to protect public safety and to limit the risk of person-caused wildfires. This ban does not restrict fires in stoves using gas, propane, or briquettes.
This restriction does apply to open flame campfire apparatus (i.e. propane campfires, etc.), tiki torches and citronella candles.
Forest Use Restrictions in Kamloops Fire Centre
Due to severe wildfire risk we are asking people to stay out of backcountry regions where ever possible.
| also the campfire ban has been lifted for the kootenays Quote:
Campfire Bans in Southeast Fire Centre
Effective at noon August 14, 2009, campfires are again permitted in the Rocky Mountain, Kootenay Lake, and Columbia Forest Districts, and in the Arrow Fire Zone.
Campfires remain prohibited in the Boundary Fire Zone. This area is bounded by the Okanagan Highland Range of the Monashee Mountains to the west, the height of land along the Christina Range to the east, and the Canada-U.S. border to the south. It encompasses most of the Kettle River and Granby River drainages.
The lifting of this campfire ban applies within BC Parks and to all public (Crown) and private land. It does not apply within municipalities or regional districts that have their own burning restrictions. Please check with your local authorities before lighting a fire.
While small, controlled campfires are now permitted in some areas, all other Category 1, 2 and 3 open fires, as well as the use of fireworks and burning barrels, remain banned throughout the entire Southeast Fire Centre.

more good news! Quote:
Effective at noon on August 17 and until further notice, campfires under Category 1 of Section 20 of the Wildfire Regulation are rescinded throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre, pursuant to Section 10(1) (a) of the Wildfire Act, except for the Kamloops and Lillooet Fire Zones and a southern portion of the Clearwater Fire Zone.
All other criteria for open fire under Category 1 remain restricted, as well as all open fire throughout the fire centre under Category 2 and Category 3.
Campfire patrols will continue in all areas where the ban still applies and the public should ensure they are within the designated area before lighting a campfire.
Within prescribed areas, the lifting of a portion of this Category 1 fire ban applies to BC Parks and to all public (Crown) and private land outside of organized areas. It does not apply within municipalities or regional districts that have their own burning bylaws or bans. Please check with your local authorities before lighting a fire.
This portion of the Category 1 fire ban has been rescinded due to the fire danger being lowered by recent rainfall and cooler temperatures throughout specific areas of Prince George Fire Centre. Regardless of the lower risk in these specific areas, the public is urged to remain vigilant and cautious with their use of campfires.
The Kamloops Fire Zone includes the area south towards Logan Lake, west to the Hat Creek valley, north towards Wells Gray Park and to the east of Adams Lake in the Shuswap area.
The Lillooet Fire Zone extends from the Hat Creek Valley in the east to the Cascade Mountains in the east and from Boston Bar in the south to the Churn Creek Provincial Park in the north.
The restricted area in the Clearwater Fire Zone extends from the northern tip of Adams Lake, for campsites at lake level only, south into the Kamloops Fire Zone.

I had heard on the local radio here that they were banning propane stoves too as of sat. Obviously that was wrong or the fire center decided not to go ahead with it.
