my McD at pacific centre dunsmuir used to be open 24/7... =) but now only fri/sat open all night

Here's my take on some places:

~ The McDee's on Cambie and Broadway is no longer 24hours. I found that out the hard way when I had intense munchies after Atlantis. :o ... it USED to be 24h .. they must have figured it was a bad idea since there are not enough customers to make a profit overnight AND there is an abundance of bums sleeping inside.

~ Hon Bo or whatever is FUCKING GROSS!! The first time (and last time, ever) I went there I almost "fan toi" (flip the table) because I was so disgusted. We had a group of like 12 people after drinking, they had a table set up for us in it what seemed like 15 minutes (it was NOT busy at all.) There were old mainlanders rubbing their toes and playing MahJong on the far side of the restaurant, but I didn't even mind that. What I DID mind was that there was some kind of dirty brown water dripping from the ceiling at the table we were sitting at, we asked to change tables and they said no (wtf?) ... uh.. ok so we all shifted over to the side where it wasn't as wet. Then I put my arms on the table and it wasn't very steady. Plus the table looked... bumpy. So I lifted the table cloth.. and found about 30 bones under the table. They dont even clean it?! .. they like just toss a new (if it's even new) cloth on top of the table?... anyways so I ask for 4 glasses of water (I had to ask about 3 times) .. and when he finally listens, he is walking back with 4 empty cups and a jug of water. Then he drops one of the cups ... and then he picks it up off the ground and puts it on our table to like nothing happened ...
So that's where I went nuts and started yelling at the waiter and we already ordered but no food came, so I told them this place is garbage and that we're leaving. I put down a quarter for tips and we all walked out.

~ The Pho place on Broadway close to Cambie is 'decent' ... I mean you can't complain .. there isn't another 24h place for another 20min drive ... haha, they also serve alcohol to regulars any time of the day.

~ Golden Award is like my soul food. (2 item combo plz + Ice Milk Tea) Haha, I go there all the time. Too bad they close at 3. (Alexandra Road, you can't miss it)

~ No. 9 needs no introduction, it's the gathering place for the masses of Hongers and pretty much everyone else who's looking for some grub in the middle of the night in Richmond. They have a good variety of food, from rice to noodles to burgers and sandwiches. (Lansdown Mall, No. 3)

~ Taiwanese Beef Noodle on Granville and 60th-something. It's the Chinese equivalent of that Pho place on Broadway. It's something different, the food is not bad. Personally I like it more than the Pho place.

~ HKYK has got some tasty dishes for dim sum or Hot Pot, but they also close around 3ish-4. (No. 3)

~ Green Hut was decent, but I went there quite early that last time I went (like 11pm) .. so I don't know how much the food quality diminishes as the night wears on.

if you ever find yourself craving for an omelette or eggs and ham - I highly recommend the River Rock cafe -$7 for a fairly good chunk of food, no tipping required and the party doesn't stop after eating :)

hamsup 08-11-2005 08:56 AM

There's a Chinese place on around 64th and Granville with a yellow sign. They're open 24 hours. I've never been there nor have my friends, but give it a shot :)
