Kakurenbou on Jervis just north of Robson. Coworker told me his buddy's dad did the interior decor so I decided to check it out. It's behind Fogg + Suds, and unless u look for it chances are you'll walk right by and not know it exists.

Interior decor reminds me a lot of Chopstick Cafe (ie Imperial Japanese-themed) on Yaletown. Because it's quite low-key, the place had NO lineup, even on a Saturday night. Good for a nice quiet date :)

My guests had the freshly squeezed OJ drink, they literally give you half an orange with a dish to squish the orange into! I thought it was entertaining but my friend was not so impressed, she didn't like literally having to work for her drink.

Can still taste the food, damn. Chopped octopus salad was the shiz. So was the udon. Had about 6 dishes; every single one was very good. (mind you I do have rather low food taste though ;))

The best part though was the dessert. Had the raspberry granite. omg that thing is to die for.

Dinner for 3 came to $75 after tax before tip. Very reasonable, and service was great. I'm gonna come back with more friends.

I've been interested in Kakurenbou before, how does it compare to similar restaurants?

Went to Chambar last weekend, a Belgian restaurant somewhere @ Beatty street.
I had some kind of rabbit meat appetizer, with some kind of grape salad, and pork ribs+shoulder+stomach main dish. while he had a mussel dish which was served directly in a huge pot! The soup was unbelievably fresh and delicious with a slight hint of spice. omg i loooved it. Their fries were also one of the best i've ever tried.
Great ambience and service too!
Bill came up to $80+ with tips and tax included.. little pricy for two people but it's gourmet, it's what we expect. however, definitely one of the most FILLING gourmet i've ever had!

I was at db bistro on Wednesday for a db burger.

A big disappointment the burger lacked seasoning and flavor. Near the end we found ourselves dipping the burger in our poutine gravy. The poutine and
fries were very good.

Cost: $70 for two burgers a poutine and a fry, not worth it but happy to have gotten trying it out of the way.

Joey's on burrard by pender.

Got there around 8 and was seated within 5 minutes. Wasn't expecting much as I heard it was just like earls? Music was a bit loud but tolerable.

Good service, waitress was attentive and checking up enough. Started off with the ginger pork which was a bit too sweet for my liking. Gf had the pesto chicken quesadilla, it was okay but nothing special. I had the Ahi tuna club, seared on the outside of the tuna steak and kept medium rare inside, served on a bun dressed with onion rings and watercress with a salsa. It was good, nothing too exciting though. Both came with thin cut fries, un salted. Gf had a mango burst which is basically a spritzer with fresh fruit of your choice.

After reading mixed reviews of good and bad I'd say its as good as earls but nothing exciting, prices are decent.

7/10 + 1 for all the good looking waitresses.

Will come back for a lunch.

Le crocodile on smithe by burrard.

Trying to find a flaw with my visit...the hostess looked a bit intimidating?
Anyway, we were given complimentary shrimp and lobster pastries, quiche like? They were great, soft throughout and crisp on the outside. My girlfriend ordered the escargot with garlic butter, which was recommended by our server, as well as the bone marrow which I had ordered. Both were rich and juicy.

Our mains were the duck with fried foie gras, The duck was tender and cooked medium rare. The liver was succulent and melted on your tongue. I had the double cut veal chop, rich and tender on the bone served with a reduction...which I cant remember. They serve a plate of fries and shoe string fries to compliment the dishes.

You are then given a complimentary pear sorbet to cleanse your palette. For dessert we had the grand mariner souffle, and a pastry ( forget the name) stuffed with ice cream and the server pours hot Belgian chocolate on top in front of you.

Great food, great service, great knowledgeable staff that knows the menu,
a bit pricey, appetizers from 10-25, mains from 27-40, and desserts are all 10.95

Price for 2 was around 145 without tip.

lol! Sounds like my experience 3-4 years ago. Ended up just not tipping cause service was non-existant. I had to go to the cashier myself to pay cause no one was around!

Just went to The One Japanese Restaurant

http://maps.google.ca/maps/place?cid...0&z=13&iwloc=A

great food, great service. The waitresses there are decent looking. It's a pretty big place too, with two floors. Seems like it would be a good place to book a party, almost like a VIP section upstairs.

There is even a bar in the restaurant and multiple TVs. The only thing I think they need to improve on is the inner decor because it is a little dull. Plus the menu could be completely redone. All in all, still recommended!

The Eatery on West Broadway

http://www.theeatery.ca/

Went last night at around 8:00 - 8:30 with the gf. We weren't that hungry so we ordered 3 Rolls to share between the two of us. The food took literally 40 minutes, and after about half an hour our waitress felt bad and gave us a complimentary edamame.

There were lots of parking when I went (Saturday evening) right outside the restaurant for free, but unfortunately I did not know that and parked further back where I fed the meter.

Food was pretty good, ambiance was amazing. It was a weird theme of cartoon characters but with the signs "Miso Horny" everywhere, and right outside the washroom the walls are filled with photos with girls in thongs/tight shirts with the writing "Miso Horny". Definitely a must check out.

The price was decent, could be better could be worse, but wasn't too unreasonable. It was about $6 or $6.5 per roll, and each roll had 5 - 7 pieces of sushi on it.

Some waitresses were very "nicely" dressed but I couldn't check them out too much cause I was with the gf LOL.

Total that says on my receipt as I'm looking at it right now is $24.00, and that was for 2 people.

ET Cafe on 920 Kingsway

I went to BT cafe with my wife this afternoon.

I have ordered Mini size baked pork chop with rice, A++, even better than i-cafe.

My wife ordered a HK style break with sunny side up egg plus ham + french toast plus a bowl of preserved vegetables rice noodle. Not bad at all.

Great prices. Good decoration inside, good services from 3 waitresses.

Highly recommendly.

Ba Le, Vietnamese sandwich shop
kingsway and Fraser

-grilled pork sandwich $3.75
Spicy warm meat and fresh crispy bread, so good that I ordered another sandwich...

-beef sandwich $3.50
Not spicy or as tasty, but still good!

-ice & milk coffee $3.25
pre-brewed in a bubble tea cup with ice I felt ripped off because it's nowhere as good as having it drip before your eyes and because it was already cold the ice takes forever to melt!

I recommend takeout unless you want to look like a dork eating out of a plastic bag. I ate in because I had time to kill in the area.

would go again I need to try all of the sandwiches

No review? My gf and I think to go, but we end up at Lao Shan Dong instead.

Alphamale 04-18-2011 11:52 PM

^The two times i went, it was absolute shit.

Food comes out lukewarm, doesn't taste that great...price is so-so.

Apparently you should stick to the noodle soups (that's what I was told after my experience)....

I'll never go back if I had a choice.

Claypot Hotpot
8291 Alexandra Road #105 Richmond, BC

All you can eat hotpot for like $18, no time limit.
Servers were really nice and helpful. There was a lot of food to choose from and the seafood was very fresh. The broth is $10 for everyone, and they have like 10 choices but i recommended the house special (comes with a free chicken). For $1 each you can have all you can drink (we all got like 4 cans of coke each). Afterward, they give you free jello and coconut pudding. Sooo good! Highly Recommended. Manager is really nice to, came around and talked to us for a bit.

Parking is easy to find, friendly customer service and a very clean place (compared to other vietnamese restaurants in the city) to dine in Surrey. Located in Surrey, T&T Supermarket or Bubbleworld on 152nd Street. Must try if you're looking for a great meal!

Right on. I went there with my dad today. The broth is wonderful, and the after-taste of the soup isnt as bad as some others. Ordered a number 1, which came with a spring roll, both very good. Highly recommended if you're in Surrey. Around 152nd st and 100th ave, good parking, can also pick up some bubble tea :)

Le Crocodilie- went there today for by bday with my girlfriend. When I made the reservations, I let them know it was for a special occasion and they greeted me with a warm happy birthday. Overall food was great, but I was expecting a little more for the price. I ordered the escargot maison, and it was really amazing. For the entree, I had a medium cooked salmon with veloute sauce, was very delicious, but also very disappointing because I found a large piece of bone... didn't expect that from such a high end restaurant, and when I told the waiter, he didn't really seem to care... he sort of just said "ok" and walked away. When dessert came around, the waitress recommended a peach sorbet, but I'm not exactly sure why she recommended that when our meal came with a small dessert which was also a sorbet, except it was mint flavored.

The meal overall tasted fairly good. Service was so-so, waitress was really friendly but did not check up on us enough. Would go back for special occasions, hopefully receive a little bit better service.

just noticed this sticky, so i'll post here too:

went to a new restaurant on cambie st today (near 17th)

Noa Pan Asian Bistro

off the top of my head we ordered:

1. deep fried chicken wings with lemon dipping sauce :sweetjesus:
2. beef brisket and tomato noodle soup
3. indonesian chicken fried rice (excellent imo)
4. hot and sour soup

the wings alone are worth the trip to this new place!

nice atmosphere/interior design, good service, decent prices, great food. there's a lot of other food on the menu i'll have to try.

prices: $3-$4 drinks, food $8-$11. the fried rice was enough for 2 people or 2 meals :)

9/10

La Taqueria

great mini tacos!

tee-tea 12-09-2011 01:31 PM

cVAu pgetit cafe on main and 33rd, one of the best pho resturant. Pho and vietnamese subs are the best sellers. Price is decent. It get super pack when it come around lunch time but the wait is quick, food comes out fast, if you are planning to get the subs there, get them before 2 o'clock. The only things that sucks are finding parking and the fact that the restaurant is small.
