I've decided its time to start with bodywork. I have a budy who owns a autobody shop in town so I took the car to him this afternoon. We started with cutting out all of the rust on the car... from anything minor all the way to the decently heavy rust spots. Both rear and front bumpers are coming off, both fenders;..., the hood "may" undergo a few cosmetic changes (i think I'll find a spare hood for this). I hope she undergoes surgury without wrecking too much. We already got one rear quarter panel mostly fixed. Spent 3hours cutting, welding and shaping a new panel. Fits PERFECT!!!

We're still thinking about what color to paint. I am thinking of going base/clear-coat. Paint back to the original red/orange, random pearl ghost flames throughout the body, silver highlights on the hood and Airbrush custom graphics on the rear rocker panels. I'll finish it off with a complete undercoating/rock guard.

So far its going good; and seems like this just may be reality.

Do it completely OEM.... you'll regret any molestation in the future.

well if you go completely OEM and then modify with taste in mind from there the car should prove to be well done.

did you crash or is that your bodywork progress? not meant as an insult, just not sure as you were saying before you were going to start on the body.

yeah, just progress pictures. I never thought that I'd actually take the car this far in depth, but I guess if I'm going to get her done, might as well do it right. Its quite the project... fenders come off tomarrow and they'll be cut up; patched and I'll try my best to remove 4-dozen dents, front bumper is coming off so It can be straitened and new fog lights installed. I'd really like to put a "custom" touch to the car, but I'm really loving the oem body style. I suppose antenna and moldings "could" be shaved???

leave it stock adam. trust me.... you'll thank yourself in the end.

Nothing looks better than a clean fresh and minty looking stock car. Mated to a nice set of 15's or 16's the car will look tight and i'll be oh so incredibly jealous and wishing i kept it.

You Coudl shave the antenna if yuo don't sue teh radio. I would DEFF not shave mouldings. shaving stuff that big never looks good in the end. cars need lines. mouldings provide them.

Id with craig 100%, cept id make a minor change to the factory paint, like a red/orange combo with some metal flake.

Red is nice, but red is one of the hardest paint colours to keep, red. When they fade, you can really tell, becuase it starts to turn pink... At work, on almsot every red car we get in, we'll do a paint sealent on it to seal the paint and leavea protective coat on it. Like wax, but not.

his car will rust out again before he has to worry about the red fading. My mom's mazda p5 is red and shes owned it for 3 years or somthing. This summer was the first summe we did any kind of polish and glaze and sealant or anything on it. and when we were done it did'nt look much different than when we started. I agree it sucks to keep it red, if you have a shitty paint on the car. get it painted with a high quality base clear and you'll be laughin for years to come.

Continued to work on the body today. Behind the panel I was working on, I found some rust on the inner-well. Cut it out, and welded new full size panel inside. Looks pretty snazy, but took a good portion of the day. The outer panel is also about 75% complete. Sanding and making shit 100% is gonna be a bitch and a half...
