Gas milage is good depending on how you drive. My old one got around 550kms before the empty light turns on on a 14 gallon tank (roughly 60L). This one being an american imported car, I get close to 300miles before a fill up. This is all city driving. Highway gets even better, I got to San Jose on 3 tanks, to whistler and bank on and I only put in 15L when I got back (I was pusing it pretty good too). Secret is keep an eye on the boost gauge, if it's going above 0psi, go lighter on the throttle That's roughly 21mpg for my daily driving and still have 250hp when I need it.
Oh... and how much is a supercharger for a civic? My guess is with the same amount of money spent on an MR2, you'd be at just over 300rwhp. Cost of modding an MR2 isn't super expensive at all. Cost goes up after you hit 300rwhp, after that, you're not looking at hundreds, you're looking at thousands. For example, a Jun intake manifold costs $2kUSD, 2.2L stroker kit is roughly $1k, etc... I'm sure modding a civic would be similar in price, just the initial car itself costs a whole lot less.
Edit: Forgot to add, milage is probably better than 21mpg cuz I only drive it down to the empty light, there's still about 10L left before it's totally empty, too lazy to look at my trip meter and the gas receipt to calculate... I get better milage from my MR2 than I do in the Protege 5. Whenever I drive the P5, the lack of power causes me to floor the gas to get the same accelleration as I do in the MR2 at 1/4 throttle.

AHah yipster.
Honestly it's not that expesnive to upkeep. Once you have all the wear/tear items replaced its like any other import car. I get ~8km/L, but then again we have to use 92oct.
Mine is daily driver. :P Drove it in the Snow too, prolly won't be doing that anymore tho haha.

I bought a 2000 Celica before I went to SFU brand new and by the time I sold it like 3 years later it already had 120,000kms on it and the drives were just hard on it + parking at school = guaranteed dings etc.

Actually, more chicks dig Civics, Preludes, Del Sol's, Integras and RSXs over MR2s. They dont know what the hell an MR2 is.

Just wondering, why are alot of '2 owners discouraging this guy from getting one? That's the vibe i'm getting from you guys. If there really is a problem with daily driving a MR2 just go and sell it and buy something more practical. In the end, if he crashes the car (which could happen to anyone); it just means more parts for me to salvage. Dont hate newcomers; the mr2 community isn't some secretive exclusive club.

Thats about 50 bucks every two weeks, you think a guy working minimum can afford 100 bucks on gas per month ?
Besides, if i wanted a fast two seater, I'd buy a bike ...
Oh wait, I am | $100 a month on gas is a deal!@#$#!
I'm guessing you don't drive much?
...if that figure wasn't BS.

I'm with the above. Just want him to know all the facts before diving in and making a huge purchase. I daily drive it to school no problems. I barely make do with gas/insurance, but in the end its worth it to me anyways haha. Sometimes I do wish I could use that extra money for vacation!

only reason why i wanna see this car come through for me, is cause this is the ONLY dream that could be realized for me..through hardwork, dedication, and sacrifice, I'd do it.
This isn't JUST a car to me.. Its something i;ve wanted for a long long time..its the only thing closest to realistic for my dream cars.

Aren't you still in high school?
Try the real world for a bit, realize how little minimum wage is, then work on getting a real job (ie. go to school) before blowing 110% of your income on a car.

ill put the car on hold and keep it in the garage if i have to...
i wanna get ahead in life, but its not like im slugging through school right now. However, IF something comes up, ill put the car on hold if I can't afford it..storage fee isn't THAT much, and I live in a good neighbourhood.
Theres a whole story behind the reason why I want this car..I wanna show those fuckers I CAN make it through life without their help..and those other fuckers that not everybody needs to rely on their parents like them.
But yea.. this car is IT..this is THE car powerful enough to pull away from those bastards driving their parent's car, AND..it looks nice doing so |

mr2 is expensive
everyone dreams of having it done out
but it cost a fortune
buy the car + a good 5k or more in mods just to get it to something u like
i get about 350km a tank at 94 octane pushing it at time to time
i thought ot my self about just keepin it at stock boost
after you feel how hard of a pull 200 torque is you have to crank it up haha
no powersteering is what i prefer , get a better feel of the car on the road, just sucks parking or moving slowly.
repairing this car is expensive since its so cramped
ne ways good luck
i think u got a supra instead of a mr2??

Great for parking and you feel the road at speeds. If I didn't have PS in this car, my arms would be gimped trying to turn some 225 tires. Oh yeah, the PS models come with a 110 amp alternator cuz the PS is electric (no motor up front to drive PS pump), great for powering the stereo I believe non PS models had an 80 amp alternator.
