Personally, I think your composition is boring.
| Agreed, I think I tried to preface that by saying that this shot is more of just recording the changes made to the car at that time. I never really got into shooting cars, so I don't really have anything to post up that isn't ugly like that pic.
I think you have helped me understand what I can do to improve my post processing though, so thanks!
I will give it a serious go and see what I can do.

I will give it a serious go and see what I can do. | Ask yourself a question... are you taking snapshots, or photographs? To me, a snapshot is what you've just described. The only purpose is to show something cut and dried. If you're taking photographs, then there's no reason why a simple photo to show the progress of your car can't be appealing!
In fact, in the end... when you look back on the progress of the car, it'll be more appealing if it's a quality shot... When you get photos of your kids done as a keepsake, because they've grown up a bit, would you just line them up against a wall with a metre stick, and snap away with your disposable camera? There's a reason you're in this forum, and it's not to take boring pictures!
Here are a couple shots for you to look at. The first is a Lexus that I shot last year... Granted I took the time to choose a location, but apart from that, it was a spur of the moment shoot. Is it interesting, or boring? (I'll leave it up to you to decide, because if it is interesting, it'll give you some ideas).
Then the next one is a boring Cavalier that my Mum bought. I took it out the night she bought it, and found this place, just down by New Westminster Quay... It's one of the crappiest cars in this world, but it's a good portrait (in my mind). Now, I've cropped out some of the body of the car, when I took the shot, but I didn't feel I had anything to show on the opposite side of the car, that would differ from that of the right side. This might be a bit different for you, because you've got the one mirror, which I am actually a big fan of.
Anyway, I'm glad the comments helped you a bit. Don't think I'm taking the piss or anything. I like the fact that you've been quiet for long enough to get the hang of things, and read answers to other people's questions, and then approach us with a unique problem. The worst thing, is when someone starts posting here, looking for someone to hold their hand through clicking the shutter button, when the simplest things have already been explained.
In any case, I'm looking forward to seeing more of your stuff!

In any case, I'm looking forward to seeing more of your stuff! | Here's some old stuff, sort of my first and last attempt to take automotive shots way back when I bought my D70.
A couple of them are a bit 'bullseyed but the background at that school wasn't all that interesting, and I think it comes down to me being less lazy and putting more effort into locations/time of day/lighting conditions.
If I had a lens with a larger maximum aperature or had taken the time to move the car farther from the building to defocus the background I think this shot could be better. I have the goods now, but this was then lol.
In retrospect it was a very half-assed attempt. I can see a lot of the things I did wrong with composition/location, but I think with some more cropping/post processing or whatever I could make them more interesting. If someone has time maybe they could have a crack at it and give me some ideas.
edit: sometimes I miss that car

I like the BW best. | Actually RM's (RS's are 3 piece and have an all metal thread in cap that matches the spoke pattern, RM's are 2 piece with a metal plate cover that uses a plastic center nut that snaps in)
The suspension was H&R cupkit with bonrath front lowering caps. The tires are 195/50r15 which are tough to stretch even if the wheel was an 8", I think 195/45r15 with a lower stance would have worked better but I sold wheels and car before I got to that.
Thanks for the compliment, I normally forget to have a look at my pics in B&W to see if they work better that way.

I like the shot of the bimmer.
The skyline shot is too green (whitebalance) and there is too much saturation and contrast for my liking...

Both shots are nice, but the highlights are blown out way too much.

I agree as well about the 2nd shot. Its does nothing for me, weak composition and the post editing doesnt benefit it either. The angle in which it was taken is the only thing that is somewhat appealing in that picture to me.
The first shot is pretty nice, good contrast with the yellow bmw in front of the blue background, and nice angle.
