Alrighty, I finally got my hands on a DSLR of my very own for Christmas (been using Canon's from work), and haven't had much time to play with it until today. I thought I'd take some pics of a car I stopped by at a dealership to look at simply to get some frames out of it... actually, truth be told, I went to a dealership to buy the damn car, but since they were closed I figured I may as well take a few pics to drool over until Monday...

And a shot of the whole car... it's shitty composition I know, but hey, what else can you do on a closed dealership lot?

lol.

man, those are some awesome shots. tnxs for posting the "Scouting shots" too, its interesting to see how you got the idea. The lighting in the scouting shots is more purple, but in your photos is oranage, which makes it really good. but howd you do it?

maybe the levels of the different channels? That's the only way I can think of that levels could possibly change colour, but that changes the tint of the whole picture, so I'm not too sure lol

NO! IT'S PHOTOSHOP!! DUH

I love how the debate still rides on, even though he's told you what it was.

I'd say that due to the longer exposures where there is no sun to lighten the horizon, and therefore diffract blue light (blue sky... atmospheric stuff, I forget, Science was a LONG time ago).

In any case, at 2-3am, the moon is usually at its peak, which means that most light you'll get is either from the moon, which is soft, or ambient light in the distance. I would be willing to bet there's some sign of life back there near those clouds, and street lights are probably running rampant through the streets! The longer the exposure, the more light there is, and sometimes it's light that we don't even see... as shown in his scouting photos, because I can almost guarantee you that he didn't see any sign of sunlight, or a lightened horizon when he took the photos.

Anyone who's still curious about this, I recommend you take your camera and tripod, an go sit in a field, or park or something, and take varied exposures over the time that the sun sets, and the sun rises. There are some amazing thigns that you can see with the help of a long exposure!

Too bad it's difficult to take very long exposures with digital - sensors heat up causing noise/ghosting and batteries run out.
Then with colour film you have problems with reciprocity failure.

Interesting point! I have yet to actually buy a tripod on this side of the water, so I haven't been shooting in the dark... good to know I have some bad stuff to look forward too though. Haha.
