So I told someone that knows her to tell her to reply in the thread. Hopefully, she'll do it!

^He's some HK photog that ppl seem to really enjoy and think he's the greatest. He just spews out repetitive stuff that is rather boring. His only attraction is that (since he's relatively famous) he gets lots of rich clients that want their super hot and rare cars taken pictures of. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...d.php?t=392102
One of his examples. But honestly, you see just one of them , you've see them all.

Yeah I don't get the allure of Chester Ng either. Mediocre shots...just nice subjects that he simply cannot take advantage of.

ckrieg - I like the 3rd pic the most, lighting looks more even, less spill on the pavement. What flashes do you have again?

ckrieg: The technique seems to be getting there. I'm curious as to how long you spend to actually set up the shot (I know you got hassled by malfunctioning equipment...so let's ignore that for now).
When looking at the pictures, it seems to me that they're lacking fine tuning of the subject. The exposure looks good, but it lacks that special sauce. I feel that maybe if you spend a few more minutes to position the car (or pull it away from the wall) and get lower to get some extreme angles for the car it would do your shots some justice. The backgrounds seem to be a bit distracting too (hence pulling away from the walls).
Otherwise exposure and effect looks good.

Generally speaking (since I'm still a noob at flash photography) I will set something up that I think might work, then make many adjustments as I go. First to the overall lighting (balancing the two flashes with ambient), and then composition. For this, I hadn't even finished the first step :P
I agree, the background was rather distracting. I actually wanted to do shots with just dark cloudy sky in the background, but he wanted to go here first...
But yes, I agree, it is lacking that "shine", for lack of better words.

Just got my rims on the otherday. Only had a few minutes to burn so I snapped a couple off. I'm not too sure how I'm going to solve the issue of having no light in the center of the car in the second picture. Maybe take multiple exposures with the flashes in different spots/angles and them combine them? Otherwise, I guess the easy answer would be to buy another flash? haha |

Colin, glad you took the comments well
Man, it's brutal trying to take pictures of a black car isn't it? I learned that it's hard to remove the reflections (key for car shots), yet maintain the look and feel for the lines of a car. Mine's black too.
Have you tried setting the shutter longer, f-stop higher, and simply running around the car to trigger the flash at points where you think should bring out the lines of the car? Something you could try....just an idea, nothing that I've tried out personally
BTW, nice rims....what kind are they?
