quick question for anyone who knows... does "despeckle" in PS do anything to the pics? is it useful?

It does a minor lessening of noise in pictures.

I do it sometimes, if I find the picture is too noisy....however, if you want a better solution to noise control, use Neat Image or a similar program (but it'll mean you need to spend more time on an image).

IS doesn't really help with panning.

Um... I don't get it. You're moving your camera anyways when panning so wouldn't IS like... not work?

so IS doesn't work when panning? is the function of IS to keep focus on a certain point? while panning, can't it do that as well?
