the Panasonic Lumix LZ1? turn on that image stabilizer! :p

TheSmokeShow 12-31-2005 11:51 AM

it had it on! my tripods over on the mainland :( and daytime pics come out not too sharp either on max res. and other cameras have worked great for me. i'm looking at a powershot S2 IS.

GFunk 12-31-2005 06:48 PM

Domani 01-01-2006 09:46 AM

WOW!

did u by any chance take the same shots without the car?
cause the expsure of the bg is really nice.

GFunk 01-01-2006 01:51 PM

I've posted them in snapshot of the day but i see you've found that already. I found the cloud pattern in the automotive shots much more appealing. But to get a wow from the guy i looked up to in autophotography is big props

[edit] I remember one thing that I needed help on while i was taking those pictures. Does anyone have tips in terms of composition for pictures like those? I was just kinda guessing and testing different angles but i was completely clueless as to what worked and what didn't

Domani 01-01-2006 05:38 PM

hehe that's too much lol

i think the angles are ok in those shots, it kinda varies with
diff type/models of cars. but as a general rule of thumb
a 3/4 shot is wut most photographers use. which gives the
automobile it's stance.

edit: wut i like about the above pics was there were soo much
details in the buildings and all lit up very well.

GFunk 01-02-2006 12:34 AM

hey which regions of ubc are decently lit at night and could allow access for a car? I know some of you have done some shoots there but I'm a sfu-er so i have no idea where the good spots are.

Aztek DeViL 01-02-2006 11:23 AM

He means to take the cars picture where you can see the side and the front.. Or side and back.. Sometimes it doesn't work when you take a straight on shot or just a side shot.

3/4 shots just gives the car it's depth. length and width

wow you're brother has some rich rich friends.

Hamsup: haha i've found it to be one of the most popular spots in vancouver

hamsup 01-03-2006 02:48 PM

yah.. i started taking some practise shots there last summer.. there are a few other really really good spots !

[azn angel] 01-03-2006 03:02 PM

somethings that can help your picture jason.

turning the cars so it's more of a profile shot. and give the wheel a little crank to tip in the wheels. also make sure both cars are at the same viewing angle.

white balance is pretty good.

u gotta do something with the huge degredation. i dont know if its a setting on your camera or the fact that the image has been resaved too many times, but the quality is just shite!

resize the damned thing!give it a clean border, and add unsharpen mask.

but i have to say, becuase hte background is soo sharp and bright, it takes away from the focus of the cars as a primary focus. I'm torn between focusing on the buildings in the bg then the cars and back and forth.

DaFonz 01-03-2006 06:13 PM

Looks like yu use shadow/highlight?

yah i resaved it... and tried to make the image smaller .. hence the shittier quality... i am still teaching myself... and this was a just park ur car and shoot type thing... it was so freaking cold.. that we just took pictures as is... i will try to do some better car positioning next time... maybe when it is warmer !! =P

I've been trying to teach myself ps... so um.. yah... i have a million and one things to learn.. (well i just used it for the first time yesterday night !!!)

[azn angel] 01-04-2006 02:32 AM

snapshots = booooo

honestly, the way i see it, if you're going to stop and try to get a shot, take a few more minutes before you hit the shutter and think of those things. foreground boke, background mergers, primary and secondary subject points....:D

hamsup 01-04-2006 08:32 AM

doesn't this all come with experience ???? ^.^ no one pics up the camera and becomes a pro overnight =P

I think this pic Would be a bit better if it was rotated so the car was straight in the frame, and I think its a little over exposed on the side where the sun hits the car.

Man how does that thing sound in person? Such a beautiful car.

u're totally correct! in addition, you have to know what to practice in order to grow.

c&c is what we're here for :D

hamsup 01-04-2006 01:00 PM

what is C&C ?

Domani 01-04-2006 01:47 PM
