not judging. Just generally curious. The sous vide has mesmerized me for years and as I’ve always been one to cook low and slow. It’s just the next step. Although this year I’ve been perfecting my cast iron cookware. It’s taken about 7 years but I’m finally happy with the seasoning I’ve created.

Oh, just had a sous vide prepared, prime rib steak............ god damnit, it was good. The money I save by not going to the Keg or any other steak house is great. All done at home whenever I want. Seared on super high heat to get that perfect grilled finish = mouthwatering. I have an Optigrill+ I could have used, but chose to go cast iron pan. Anything electric is a lie and a waste of time, gulolol.

Gas stoves, ftmfw!

What have you been using to season? The past 6 months, I've been using coconut oil. It's got more saturated fat than lard. Because of that, I won't cook with it or eat it but it's great for seasoning my pans. Just wondering if there's something better.

Has anyone had the Buddha jumping over wall soup 佛跳墙 locally here ? I think Kirin has it for 700 bucks but I wanna know if it’s worth it before ordering such a crazy expensive soup.

Raid3n 12-03-2019 11:27 PM

price is only going to go up since canada banned the import of shark fins this year.

I've my fair share of 佛跳墙; price hasn't really changed over the years.
It was 500 back 20 yrs ago, to 700 and some that are 900.

We had one that served with 12 people and 1/2 the people received were cold;we sent it back to get it reheated.

first of all; it's not a soup;it's a combination of things: (芋頭,雞肉,雞子
竹笙,排骨,海參,栗子,鵪鶉蛋,干貝,花膠,火腿,,冬菇,冬筍,鮑魚,魚翅,白菜). These are normally the must see ingredient within the soup.
It's 90% served individually so it's not like a shark fin soup type deal where you get a communal version.

Lastly, it suppose to be labor intensive to not just BOIL, the soup, but steamed individually. The smell is suppose to be so overwhelming good; even the monks would climb over the wall to see what was brewing hence the name of the dish.

I've paid myself and have been treated before; 9/10 times we had a private room and it's something to be appreciated.

Badhobz 12-04-2019 06:59 AM

^thanks. But have you had kirin's buddah soup? was it any good? its a toss up between trying kirin's one and sun sui wah, but i dont really like sun sui wah, so i rather have it at starlight kirin.

6793026 12-04-2019 02:08 PM

I can't say.
I would say and ensure it's served individually like this.
https://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/me...aa/1d/30/v.jpg
and not like this.
