Hmm this sunday isn't looking so hot weather wise, supposed to dump snow. What are the chances of you having a snow mobile? :p

Senna4ever 12-17-2008 11:53 PM

Agreed. Let's go some other time. I should have the D3x in January. :)

Senna4ever 12-24-2008 02:48 PM

Ok, kyle. I got my birding kit. :D Let's go when the snow melts to a more manageable level. How's the ice on Deer lake? I'll remember to bring my battery. :p

When bird shooting, and that kind of lens, would you use a tripod? If so what kind?

Also, what lens is that, its a beast lol!

The widescreen border gives it a national geographic documentary look. Nice photos!

crazyturtle 01-21-2009 01:31 PM

wow, how far can that lens zoom?

It all depend how far away the animals are. You'll need a minimum of 200mm for wildlife though. A tripod or monopod would be a good idea...make sure it's not a cheap one though.

The lens on the left is a Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 AF-S VR. The one on the right attached to the D300 is a Nikon 500mm f4.

The big one is not a zoom. It's a 500mm f4 prime. It weighs 8 pounds!

77civic1200 01-21-2009 06:08 PM

Niforpix - Thanks! I am starting to get the hang of birding photos, still need a better keeper ratio. Those are all taken with the bigma, wish I could afford faster glass, but not yet.

Thanks Tom! your back in town now right?

Boostslut 01-21-2009 07:52 PM

77Civic1200, those are some of the best eagle shots i've seen! Love the BIF pictures wow! Those are pictures i dream of getting! I would love to get some longer glass. 500mm F4 would be amazing! Its hard to save pennies when i keep on spending them! Huge props man! Unreal!

Senna4ever 01-26-2009 10:53 PM

All taken with Nikon 500mm f4.

Kyle, one day you'll get that lens... one day. :p

77civic1200 01-27-2009 06:03 AM

Some guy let me put my camera on his 600mm f4 yesterday for a couple shots of a hawk destroying a duck for lunch. OMG did that lens make me horny, I'll have the shots up later.

niforpix 01-27-2009 08:27 AM

Where did you go?

77civic1200 01-27-2009 06:17 PM

I was just out for a walk with a friend and her kid near Jericho to feed the ducks, spotted a hawk on the frozen pond. As I walked closer I noticed about 10 photogs off to the left all using huge glass. I was talking to a lady for a bit about what it was eating, when her husband asked if I wanted to try his lens (I only had my 85mm with me) I couldn't turn down that chance.

The 600mm appeared hornier I bet. :haha:
