nice capture Colin, were you waiting for it in an industrial area?

ColinK 01-15-2010 11:17 AM

^ nah, I work out of my parents home office and their home overlooks Kelowna. There is a bluff there so sometimes birds will hang out in front. It's pretty cool!

Here's a webcam pic of the view: http://www.wolfhomes.com/webcam.html

Boostslut 01-15-2010 11:52 AM

Good one Colin! Was this through a window? What lens did you use? Cropped much?

ColinK 01-15-2010 03:51 PM

^ yes, through a window. Shot with the cheap Sigma 70-300 f4-5.6 @ 300mm

It's cropped a bit. I'd say I cropped about 1/3 away?

Just saw this and thought it'd be cool to post. Very jealous of some of the setups out there (puts my 50D to shame + modest tele to shame :().

These were taken at the "soon-to-be-closed" Conservatory at QE.

Holy crap Senna.. You are the undisputed bird king. Amazing shots. Amazing gear too! Do you own the 500mm? That thing is probably worth more than my car...:dead:

Juvenile Great Blue Heron that fell out of its nest. It got killed and eaten by some raccoons later. Shot with Sony A700 + 200mm f2.8 HS APO G.

You guys have amazing photos! I'm so jealous! Great stuff!
I was walking around Burnaby Lake the other day and I snapped a few photos of this bald eagle that was just hanging out but I'm not 100% satisfied with the photos I took. I know I can do better!
Does anyone know if there are some eagles at Brackendale Park this time of year? I checked their website and it only says that their peak season is December to January due to all the salmon that goes through the river. Has anyone been up there lately? I just don't want to trek out there and find nothing but I'm assuming there should still be a bunch of them hanging around.

Please help!
Thanks
Mike

Senna4ever 05-03-2010 08:25 AM

The eagles are almost always there by the entrance to Westham Island. If they're not there, then go to 72nd St by Boundary Bay Airport - guaranteed you'll see eagles. Also go to:
- the boat launch at Vanier Park. There is a tree right next to the Coast Guard Station with a huge nest there.
- the parking lot at Hastings & Renfrew has a tall tree with a nest. The eagles are always hanging around there.

Nice! Thanks Senna!
So no Brackendale then? I also seen a bunch every now and then at Iona Beach.

Really nice photo's Senna! Looks like its been good weather in Vancouver for some birding lately! Would love to be around there at these times. The hummer's are starting to be out which is always fun! Would be nice to find another nest somewhere at Reifel. Look forward to seeing your birding photo's over the next few months! All you other birders here should get out there too! Senna is running the show around here! haha..

Here are a few of mine from around here.. a few different that in the Vancouver area.
