That's a species of cormorant - possibly a juvenile Pelagic Cormorant.

Nice! I wish I got some sweet birds in my backyard. I only get Chickadee's, Juncos, one Wren everyday all day and sometimes a Northern Flicker will show up. I once saw a Pileated Woodpecker in the summer but he doesn't wanna come back. I put out suet, I made a feeding log, even build two bird houses big enough for woodpeckers and still no dice. I have five huge dead trees in my backyard as well so he can poke holes all day long but no signs of the bird yet. Perhaps its cause I'm kind of near a busy road but on the other side is a massive park so maybe he's hiding in there. Who knows.

I got bored at home so I grabbed my camera and went for a nature walk around Ladner. Around 15 or so Eagles and a bunch of other birds. I couldn't get in close so I just filmed them talking to each other but it came out crappy. I'll try it again if I can get closer to them. I gotta find a nest thats nowhere near a private property and where its quiet so I can film them laughing at each other. hah.

Here's the Wren that visits everyday. I narrowed it down to a Bewick's Wren but I'm still not 100% sure.

I think a saw a couple of Cormorant birds today. I couldn't see them perfectly as they were some what far away but they were all black, long neck with fairly long yellow bills. Swimming in an extremely large pond. Almost lake size. One of them was diving and didn't come up for air for a minute or two. Gonna bring my gear there tomorrow if I have time and snap a photo!

This was in my backyard again. They were everywhere!

Varied Thrush!! I have one that visits my backyard everyday! two to three times a day but its so tough to snap a photo. He comes for a few seconds nibbles on some seed and flies off. I got a few shots but nothing that I like.

That's a pretty good photo compared to the ones I took of the same bird. Keep putting seeds out he'll come around 8ish AM. You can even hear his high pitch whistle in the morning and evening (sunrise and sunset) that means his nest is close by if you can hear his call.

Pretty sweet colours on a bird but they're quick to fly off.

btw, my EF 70-200 is barely long enough for birds in my own BACKYARD. i just realized that today, taking these thrush pics, that my 70-200 is pretty much useless for anything other than a walk around lens. so be it, the 50mm and UAW are in the bag until they are needed specifically for a reason.

I love eagles!

Burnaby Lake... Stilt Sandpiper? Although probably wrong, that's the closest I can narrow it down to. I still can't tell. There are way too many sandpipers in my bird book lol.

That's still pretty sweet! I have tons of them I my backyard along with other birds but I've been trying to capture them in flight. They're pretty fast! Try it sometime. They have some cool white feathers around their tail.
