beauty! gotta ask, but why always so small? you uploaded a 1000p wide, why not link that one? |
Gonna go out to the end of 72nd tommorow, and maybe Reifel too. What time are you usually around there NVM? I wanted to go just after the sun comes out in the morning to get some early action. Thoughts anyone? |
work with the tide, you want it to be out(down). if its a frosty morning, i wouldn't expect any action til it warms up, mid/late morning. first time i went there, i was lucky and the tide was out, and it was about 1-2 pm.shortly after that, the light was getting warm , golden awesome. also, you have to figure out where the owls are mostly, left or right. if they're to the right, bonus! because that's where the hawk and short earred owls hunt, in the fields on the north side of the dyke(where that humungous house is). you can photograph everything like i did without moving around too much. |
i'd go with ya but i'm in T.O. go Leafs go! :lawl: |

Ernie, I'm free all week next week, if you (or anyone else) want to head out. :) |
That sounds great Jason! :) I'm unemployed, though applying for jobs as i sit right now. I will let you know. I'm sure Jason and i could have some nice lenses to play with if anyone wants to come along (if your a Canon shooter). |
Maybe something that has "800mm f5.6" written on the side? :) |
If you could bring something with Wimberly, and Gitzo written on the side too that would be great. I have the most ghetto setup right now for my lens, it's shameful. Thanks! |
^^^ I can certainly do that! |
if its sunny you need to get out on the marsh. the sun is always behind the birds if you stay on the dyke. |
^^^ That's why you go just after sunrise and a few hours before sunset. I never go between 10:30am and 2pm. I don't like the background when shooting directly north during those times. Too bad there aren't as many owls (there were about 18 within easy pickings) as there were 6 years ago - and way more photographers as 6 years ago...and many of those fauxtographers are morons. |
lol. or just get off the dyke. ain't nothing like being hip high in the ocean in December with $6k in camera gear inches from death. what a rush that is! |
^^^ I only have mesh runners..... :okay: I should take the Hasselblad - then I can stay on the dyke and just crop in! Haha... Quote:

lol..Perfect Jason! Nicely done, you will be the only one forsure with one of those! Getting there early today was great. The frost everywhere was magic! It was really good actually about 9 snow owls about, and some good action. There was lots of falcons flying around, a short eared owl flying too, and quite a few eagles in the tree's. 10am started, and HEAPS of people came out. A bit too much. Lots of long glass too. I have to buy a CF reader, i forgot mine on the other side of the world, and will post pics later on tonight if i get the chance. Got some good ones i think. Most pic's taken with 7D + 1.4x + 500mm F4L. |
Went to Boundary Bay again today. Went to Reifel after that. Here is a photo I got at Boundary Bay with my lame equipment of the Short Eared Owl? http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7030/6...9b40acb996.jpg I got maybe three to four more decent ones. |
