I got a chance to walk around Boundary Bay today. I saw a Short-Eared Owls and a lot of Harriers like always. I had a great time walking around and enjoying some fresh air and sun shine. Something that I did not get to do in a very long time.

What's the deal with the people who even though have a 400mm or longer lens feel the need to get closer to the birds? I know its always better to get as close as possible to your subject versus cropping but there are signs all over the place that clearly states, "Stay on dyke trail" and "No trespassing"
I saw 8 people walking all over the fields behind the little fenced off area that has a bunch of electrical poles and wires. Most of the birds were flying further and further away as photographers got closer and closer. Maybe they were authorized to be in the area but it didn't really look like it, I could be wrong though.

I saw more photographers walking off the dyke trail at Boundary Bay today. One of them was pushing a stroller while holding his 400mm and massive tripod

I'm not sure if they are allowed to be where they are or not but the owls are much further away then usual. There were several photographers way past the fenced off BC Hydro area and they kept on travelling further out. They were about 40-50 meters away from the dyke trail.

I remember last year there were two men on horses informing people to stay on the trail and escorting people off the marsh when the Snowy Owls were sitting on the logs near the trail. I wonder if they gave out some type of ticket haha. If the general public is allowed to walk around on the other side of the dyke where the BC Hydro property is then sweet! I'll be able to slowly creep up on an owl with my puny lens and finally capture a photo! But I'm pretty sure thats not going to happen. Need to sell my soul for 300mm f2.8 VR + TC!!

Can anyone identify this bird? It was near the foot of 64th Ave the other day. I looked through my bird book and the closest match I could find was a female blackpoll warber.

^^^ you still link the small photo from your Flickr. even though the original is 2048x1238, and there's the rest of the sizes in between. i'll never figure that out.

Awesome stuff!
I have two in-flight photos of the Peregrine Falcon from this afternoon. I watched it sit there for about 2 hours until did it a quick loop then back to rest for another 3 hours.
I love your Short-Eared Owl photo! its money! Did you get any of the Falcon?
