This Harrier was just sitting in the reeds looking distressed and panting like it was having an asthma attack. Apparently (according to an O.W.L. rep), it was very full after a big meal and was just resting/digesting. It let me get to within about 30 feet of it before it showed signs of being bothered by me so I backed off to about 40 feet at which point it ignored me. Also shot video, I'll upload soon. :) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps2c24542b.jpg Epic camo on these dudes! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...psf04f47a4.jpg Bokeh courtesy of Nikon D800E + 400mm f2.8VR: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps66f83869.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps6bc48420.jpg |

i've got my eye on a pair of eagles and they are going to be breeding very soon. the nest has been looking much better, so they've been renovating. getting close to them, hasn't happened much, but once they stay around the nest, i'll be getting much better shots. best part is , only 10 minutes from the house.last year i watched them hunting and swooping, and i'm planning for it this time. i was there on saturday, checked up on them, shot a few frames, but, meh. still had to crop the heck out of it. http://www.epicdevelopements.com/wp-...glemplflts.jpg http://www.epicdevelopements.com/wp-...lemplflts3.jpg |

Maplewood Flats. just got back from this Saturday's visit. no eagles within even super crop range, but on the contrary, this heron was so close and let me snap away. he was sunbathing, didn't give a shit about me. http://www.epicdevelopements.com/wp-...pleheron2a.jpg |

^ where you are Reifel on Sunday? I saw two Saw-Whet Owls but no Horned Owl :( |
^^^ I was there on Saturday. There were two-'hoo' Great Horned Owls and two-'hoo' Saw Whets and a Short Eared. :) |
impossible to shoot Saw Whets (on a narrow trail and they're perched 6 feet high under limbs), with big lenses. i learned that too. |
