I've seen Bitterns on two occasions out at Boundary Bay. Both times could not get a shot.
I've also seen pics posted of these birds from Terra Nova Park, so they're around.

Thanks for the name, I had no idea at all.

From Terra Nova Park, on River Road just on the other side of where you can park your car (area for parking your car is the one closest to the washrooms (green roof). It was hard to spot as there was a small ditch that goes down and it blends in pretty good especially when its head is sticking straight up.

I saw one of those at reifel once, did the same thing with poking its head straight up out of a ditch out by the water. I knew where it was and still had a hard time seeing it when it wasn't moving

btw, this is the eagle nest at Maplewood. they've been taking turns on the egg, and its getting close. i also saw the ospreys are back too, but they're way out on the last pile, so no shots of them.
