If we have used bikes or demos, there is no problem sending out a ride. I am talking strictly with new bikes where we may only have one in our inventory. Unless you show you are legitimately interested why should we put KMS on a brand new bike?
And Rich, I'm sure it's a bit different with motorcycles but you would be very surprised how many people come in to look at bikes and lie about their time frame just so they can go on a free ride. The worst part is I have Richmond Motorsports down the street, and they basically toss the keys to anyone that walks in the door. So we get a lot of young guys wanting to ride the R1 or R6 that have no intreste what so ever in buying and get offended when I don't let them ride it.

I do accept that there are people who go for joyrides and waste time, but honestly, in the pit of my heart, I believe that anyone who walks into a dealership on their own free time and goes through the effort to take a car or bike out for a demo, IS, at some level, a buyer. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, and maybe not that car, and maybe not from you, but you have the opportunity to sell them a car or bike at some point, as long as you play your cards right. (and I've won hands with some pretty shitty cards!) |

I was looking at a used MS3 (Demo) at the Mazda in Richmond Auto Mall. I asked about how it being a demo, people would want to rip it despite the fact it hasn't been properly broken into yet... salesperson tells me (something along the lines of)
- we don't let people who can't handle manual test a manual car
- we don't let people rip up the car, unless they tell us they want to (which they will take the proper used/leased stock)
low and behold, just when I was walking in to take a look at the Mazda 5, some test driver is revving a mazda 3's engine like no tomorrow attempting to get it into gear...

Whether it's a demo, new stock, or used; you never know who has driven it and how, unless you buy it right off the transporter from the factory. The thing is, most cars should be able to withstand a few bounces off redline without any damage at all.

^ This man knows his shit. It's actually all cars. Doesn't matter if your car is an econobox or not. The cars literally fly off the ship and onto the dockyards. It's pretty crazy.

I was looking at a pre-owned STI in Kelowna on a used car lot...
Salesman: "You're gonna love this one, its got a porsche engine!"
Me: "Oh...sweet....does that mean I gotta take it to Vancouver to get serviced?"
Salesman: "nah, just take it to any German shop, there's a VW shop near here"
Me: "haha, ok.."
30mins later...
Salesman: "....thats the first time Ive had a customer do 200km/hr on a test drive.."
Me: "..you're welcome"

^ He is right, not kinda right but actually RIGHT! It's a boxer engine.
My Caravan has a V6 engine it's basically the same as the GTR engine. So therefore I have a GTR engine.

Subaru = flat 4 engine
Porsche = flat 6 engine | The company that makes the engine (fujitsu) makes them for porsches and subarus. So in some way it is the same company making an engine but not the exact same engine.

1 thing that really grinds my gear is some sales try to close the deal without letting me into the car. Yes, I have seen pictures but at least let me sit in the car and have a feel. Maybe fire up the engine and let me hear the engine running. I'm not looking forward toI think as a customer I have the right to see what I'm getting myself into before paying my hard earned cash.
