| what was the dumbest thing a used car salesperson has said to you?
we've all heard the "driven only on sundays to church by a little old lady" one...
but just for laughs i was wondering if anyone else has heard of anything similar or even crazier?
for example, mine was "this car has never seen winter" from a sales guy as i was staring at the bald snow tires mounted on a 2 year old car with rusted out suspension and brakes (found out later it was from ontario, but was purchased from quebec because the owner's manual was in french...!). and this was in the middle of july! i just couldn't run away fast enough from that one... it took another 3-4 more months before the ad was gone from the buysell... god help the person who bought that one

not used, but some dumbass at the Honda dealership on Kingsway once told me the BB6 prelude would run 12's with an intake and headers.
I had to lol at that, not just the ingorance, but his use of the plural, headers. |

i was dumb enough to go to a king george dealer ship and when he popped the hood pf this 325i vert i was looking at, a rat jumped out of liner covering the inside of the hood. thing was fat, least the size of my head.
the salesman was like "yah, they like to stay inside things when winter comes around, you know how it is"
me: not really, and do you think the rat chewed up anything important in there.
him: probably not.....lets go inside my office to talk about.
me:hahahaha pass, peace

Actually this didn't happen to me but to my brother. He went with our mom when she bought her Dodge Caravan. My brother wasn't too impressed with the car, so the salesman told him "The Caravan is a sleeper, it'll outhandle your 325is anyday!"

Right after I bought my old GTO my friend (who worked at Cars From Mars..LOL) asked me if it was a 16-valve. Naturally I told him that it was because hey, it did have 16 valves.

I like it when I ask to see the trunk space and they don't have a clue how to open it and I know exactly where the switch is, heh.

Place on Kingsway...Formosa...was closed down...I was looking at preludes...first one: I state: "hey, the trunk is wet"...he replies: "no no, (with accent) velly velly dry"...while he's patting the carpet...I proceed to pick it up and wring out the water...his response..."ok...maybe leaking a little..." Next few cars on the lot had minor problems causing me not to be able to test drive them (ie. dead battery and other one had flat tire)...his response to my request for a test drive..."Don't worry...car is fine...you buy car, I give you new battery/tire..." I told him I'm not buying unless you put the new things in the car so I can test drive it...but he kept saying "no no...car is fine, you buy car, I give you new part"
Of course, the best is the guy telling me..."oh, ICBC says this car is clean...no declarations from ICBC" I ask, so why is there one key for the driver's door, a different one for the ignition, and another for the trunk and passenger door?...he said "don't know, but ICBC says the car is clean"...that's when I clued in...why does he keep saying ICBC? The car was from Edmonton.

Another story...went to Lexus in North Van...told the guy that I wish the IS300 Sportcross came in manual with FWD (just for the heck of starting a conversation)...his response "what you talking about? The IS300 is FWD and you can get the Sportcross with manual transmission" I so wish I was able to drop a downpayment and see how he was gonna be able to deliver that car to me.

hmmmm... I'd have to say that Jurgen and I walked into "The BMW Store" pre aproved to buy an M3 and the salesman said "We don't have the car you want here, so we don't consider you to be a serious buyer. Therefor we can't give you a test drive" and then basically showd us the door. We called the manager, got our test drive and bought our M3 from somewhere different. hehehehehe It's gonna be here Thursday! WoooHoooo!!

The funniest thing that happened to me (other than the salesperson accidentally breaking the armrest of the Prelude while getting in and saying, "oh...that's why these keep coming in broken.") was when I was at Toyota, they had a 95 (or somewhere around that year) Supra. The guys says, you want it? Give you like $5000 off...I open the door, looked inside saw that it was auto and just closed the door and said..."no thanks"...his response was "yeah, I offered that to the last 5 guys that looked at it and they all had the exact same response as you" hahaha...that car sat there for so long...guess automatic Supras didn't sell that well.

wow all these stories!
i'm reminded of another one long time ago... there used to be a used car lot at the corner of 1st and boundary (it's a bodyshop now) and there was a nissan sentra on the lot that i thought might be nice. i asked if it had accident history and the salesperson admitted it had a rebuilt title, but the repairs were so well done "it was hardly noticable".
well, i opened the passenger door and the first thing i noticed something didn't look right with the base of the b-pillar. i poked at it and a big chunk of body filler came off, revealing hammer marks and holes that looked like from a dent puller... needless to say i walked (ran).

Well this isn't a used car situation.. but i think it's fitting...
My parents were intersted in buying a G35 Sedan when it first came out, so one sunday afternoon, we went to Richmond Nissan/Inifiniti...
We browsed around, and my parents asked me to go get a sales so we can talk some numbers... so I walked to one of the sales standing around, and I said "Excuse me, but I need your assistance."
He said, "oh, how can I help u?"
I told him "we're looking to buy a G35, could you assist us?"
He gave me the most SHOCKING look, with his eyes popping out... and said.. "YOU??"
I was like.. WTH...? why not? forget about this joker... so i went to an other sales and he was more then happy to help us.
We ended up getting the car that day, and the first sale was left alone in the cubical beisde us, wondering how much money he could've made...

I took my buddy out to an abbotsford dealer to look at a white '86 944 turbo. (cuz I know them inside and out, and I could offer advise on the condition of the car..)
So we get there, and a salesman pops the hood for us.. we're looking in the engine bay...
The owner sees us all looking at the car, and comes over and says: "Nice huh? Everything's original on the car!"
The first thing that catches my eye, is the fresh, WHITE, BRAND NEW coolant tank. (If you look at any 944, the original coolant tank turns brown after 10 years... so there's no way this WHITE coolant tank is 20 years old..) So I say: "Oh look, brand new coolant tank! That looks nice!"
Then the owner goes apeshit: "No, I said everything is original. Are you calling me a liar??? CAR'S NOT FOR SALE"
and he SLAMS the hood almost on my fingers...
wow..
I won't get into what happened after that..
