Got back from Vegas tonight. Stayed at the Wynn Encore, amazing hotel and rooms. The weather was amazing but Vegas was died. I know it's the weekday but it was kind of surprising because I went for a convention which in recent years has had tons of people but this year it was so died.

That buffet is pretty good deal but it looks so damn dry... but for 8 bux.. u can't go wrong

Meowjin 04-23-2009 10:48 AM

Yeah it looks like shit. Rather fork out 20, and eat at bellagio, or Planet Holllywood.

Yeah I don't think so either. Maybe in the late 90s, Las Vegas started catering towards families, but now it's gone back to it's adult-oriented roots. In my opinion, Las Vegas is known for gambling, partying, and shopping - none of which would be interesting for a 2-3 year old.

Yeah there's all that second hand smoke in casinos too...

I think it's still heading towards family friendly. I go there at least 2-3 times a year and over the years, it's become less and less exciting. The smoking ban for me is the big indicator. I remember people being able to walk anywhere smoking a cig... in the malls, in the stores, in the elevator, etc... now it's only in the casinos and outside... Personally, I can't stand smoking indoors or second hand smoke but in a place called "Sin City", you should be able to. What's next, no more drinking out in the streets because too many people stumble into traffic? I dunno, to me, it's slowly shedding it's "Sin City" reputation.

BlackV62K2 04-23-2009 03:09 PM

My buddy went a couple weeks ago on the weekend too and said it was dead compared to last year around this time.

Well I think the smoking ban is more for a person's health than to make the city more family friendly.

An example of how I thought Las Vegas was getting away from attracting families is this: Treasure Island used to have a large arcade & midway-type games area. It got closed down and is now a Kahunaville. Of course, Treasure Island itself (a kiddy-theme) got rebranded into TI (where the pirate battle outside is now a sexy "Sirens of TI" show).

Also, I was there in March and was shocked to see how many large billboards on the back of trucks were advertising strip clubs during the day! (Not to mention, the mexicans that hand out those "business cards" now have these fancy light-up boards that they wear - they look pretty cool, actually!)

haha...yes! I was surprised to see the Mexican guys and gals sporting the fancy backpacks with the light up escort signs on them. :D

!LittleDragon 04-23-2009 05:11 PM

I think I was passing the cards for some Mexican, said he was doing it wrong, grabbed his stack of cards and started to show them how to pass it out. At least that's what my buddy told me... half a bottle of hard liquor on an empty stomach FTL. It was such a blur

yeah but realistically, how bad is it for you to breath a few days of second hand smoke? Keep in mind, the whole city is built to ventilate the smoke as well. I mean, it's Sin City, you're supposed to be able to do the things you wouldn't/can't do at home and the two biggest things you can't do is smoke indoors and drink in public.

Well, maybe it was just the stuff I chose. But it's not like there wasn't bottomless pop included. :p

I liked it a lot better than the Paradise Garden Buffet dinner at the Flamingo, and that usually costs $21.99.

The best overall value might have been Red Rock though. They had even more selection than Gold Coast, and all the food was actually prepared and presented nicely. For dessert, instead of a soft serve ice cream machine, they had a setup like a gelato shop with like a dozen different players in the metal tubs. That was $9.99 for lunch...

Yep, it was crayfish... and a lot of people there loaded up a full plate of those. Actually, my girlfriend did too.

They had crayfish at the Paradise Garden Buffet as well...

I think downtown has more local players... I think the strip would have more crappy tourists playing.

Binions has a $11.99 steak and lobster special... but the Tony Roma's at Fremont across the street also has it as well between 9pm-11pm.

I got the one at Tony Roma's...

Obviously at that price, you can't expect too much! It is like what steak and lobster would be if it was offered as fast food. :p

jlo mein 04-24-2009 02:38 AM

That's an ok deal considering it includes lobster. When I was in Vegas I ate dinner downtown only once. Can't remember the name, but it was the very last casino on the south side of the Fremont Street Experience if you walk all the way down from where The Deuce bus drops you off. Huge juicy cut of medium rare prime for $6.99, also had spaghetti for $4.99 and half chicken for $4.99.

Get the stripper you had to buy you breakfast. You probably gave her enough money to pay off her tuition for the entire year. :D

You're going to have buffets twice a day? I would recommend otherwise... do lunch or dinner... not both.

Keep in mind Red Rock is nowhere near the strip... it's like a 30 minute drive away.

ChiGGs 04-26-2009 12:47 AM

what's the cheapest way to get from the airport to MGM Grand for two people?

fliptuner 04-26-2009 01:48 AM

Walk

Seriously, it depends how many people. 1-2 shuttle, 3+ taxi. It's about a $15 cab ride.
