^They said the room we had requested wasn't ready so they upgraded us. Oh and something about how something was messed up in the reservation??

We had requested a 2 queen sized beds for our 600 sqft room. Perhaps there's not many of those available so they upgraded to the next best thing? I'm not sure...but not complaining!! And maybe because we're girls and we had a nice young fellow checking us in..I'm not sure.

I got upgraded to the sky suites but they still charged resort fee, which is ok with me.
Good to know, thanks!
Hopefully I get as lucky as you with the upgrades.

It'll be my first time in Vegas! So excited!! Besides the buffets, are there any notable places (prob mid-range priced) to check out?

Only way to get the resort fees waived is if you gamble. I played blackjack for about 2 hours and they waived 2 resort fees for me.
You can get the most comps from playing slots though.

Vegas is all about parties, buffets and celebrity chef restaurants. You could check out the nearby outlet for some shopping but you can do that in LA or even Seattle.

Edit: Making a mental note to self for my trip next month, gonna hit up Earl of Sandwich & Carnegie Deli for some post-drinking eats ... I vaguely remember last time I was there, I was so drunk but I couldn't find a GOOD place to eat ... well didn't help that I was smashed... but I just rolled to the closest sandwich cafe I could find and it was not very good ... even while intoxicated...

always wanted to try the Rio Buffet 2 of them Seafood one + regular buffet (I heard this one is hugh! can anyone confirm this) the thing is its off strip and I usually stay at MGM. I heard if you call Rio, they will sent a shuttle to pick you up, but I wonder if I'm just going there to eat buffet, would they still send shuttle to pick me up?

There's a free shuttle from Bally's to Rio (and back every 15?) you could take if you want. Went to the regular buffet for dinner and it WAS huge lol

I did the drive from LA to Vegas about 2.5 years ago.

Few tips:
- Depending on when you leave the highways can get pretty congested but if you are leaving on a regular weekday non-peak rush hour you should be fine.
- Have a GPS it help alot
- Make sure to have a full tank of gas as I don't recall there were too many gas stations once you are 1/2 hr our of LA. (Plus you would want to get to LV as fast as you can anyways
- There's an In-N-Out burger halfway to LV. Better load up on double cheeseburgers, chocolate shake and animal fries!

Oh yeah.
Also was in vegas 1 week ago and stayed at Vdara. The $20 trick kinda works but it depends on a lot of things.

We scored an upgrade for our room.
Slightly bigger deluxe room but on a very high floors with bellagio fountain view.

You really haven't experienced Vegas until you've ordered the Carnegie Haul @ the Carnegie Deli inside Mirage

Just taxi it to the strip. The money you save on the shuttle is spent waiting there.

#7 - Rio's Carnival World Buffet: Holymoly this is by far the BIGGEST buffet selection I've ever seen, the endless trays of food in the buffet line are insane! I could barely see the other end of the restaurant! Quality is decent.
They actually have shuttles that leave from a bunch of hotels on the strip that take you to Rio. I believe I took the shuttle from Bally's last time. Harrah's might also have one. Next time I want to try the Seafood Buffet too but it's kind of out of the way to shuttle all the way out there for dinner and back.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Vdara doesn't have a casino inside right?... if you are sick of walking through smoke-filled, stuffy casino's, try Aria or Cosmo, best ventilation system EVER, scented air makes the place smell like a hot chick's perfume, you won't even notice there's smokers

Damn, those pictures of Carnegio Deli and Earl of Sandwich ... ... and they are open very late too right?... perfect after-party spot!... this idea is gonna be ingrained into my brain when I get there so even if I'm drunk I will have my body auto-set to crawl over to either one of these shops lol ...
