People needs to stop fighting the trend in RIMM. As crazy as it sounds, it is better for this stock to go lower so it gets cheap enough for somebody to do a takeover.

you'd have to think that's RIM's only play from now on.

you've got a company full of stodgy middle aged cdn engineers vs. apple, full of young, fresh out of ivy league schools, engineers creating dynamic, new age devices

what could MSFT or GOOG do with this? probably more than the current situation.

i'd maybe consider buying at $17 for this reason alone, but i, personally, won't actually be doing that (not how i invest)

I find the Motorola takeover to be a good stepping stone into the mobile industry for google. With RIM, they are definitely in the game to compete with apple or other companies ( nokia, etc.)

i think you should stop these 'broadcasts' of your stock opinions. you've been nothing but wrong/given out terrible advice (per the masses)

GS you admitted to mistiming. Netflix you were late to the party
RIM you weren't just wrong, you were astronomically wrong (and seemingly way too over confident in your thoughts as to what would happen)
$10k to the TD guy - that's really all there is to say.

i own 1 non producing miner, i bet most on here, except hte specialists are the same, but we're in vancouver, home of junior mining companies, so there will be more chatter about them, and i'm fine with that

But RIM has P/E of only 3.79!!! I'm tempted to buy some stock and hope for a small rally and sell.

Fundamental trumps technical. When the company's products aren't moving off the shelves it just doesn't matter where the moving averages, MACD or elliott waves is at. You can make money by playing a dead cat bounce (very risky still). The pros play RIMM from the short side.

You're right. RIM was developed by engineers. This is why its security architecture is so good; their technology is unique. This is also why it still has a strong base in the enterprise world; unfortunately with the mainstream crowd, a lot of people are moving to other platforms, e.g. Apple's iPhone OS, Google's Android.. etc. Another problem that RIM faces is the fact that most developers are abandoning the platform. This does not bode well for the company for obvious reasons, especially for the mainstream crowd who love their smart phones to be able to do EVERYTHING.

After RIM missed its bases points estimate it does seem like RIM is at a tipping point. There are suppose to be new platforms and products that are coming out that are suppose to save the company.. but we'll see how they plays out. You should never count RIM out though.

I think the problem with RIM is lack of vision and innovation.

They have reached a place where the steam of their original innovation is wearing out. Android and iOS are pushing out product that consumer actually wants.

IMO, RIM should split up. One that focus on the service-side of their handsets and other as a handset maker. After split up, BES should make available to Android and iOS with better integration. So RIM can cash-in on the growth of smartphones.

Then the handset maker part should become like HTC. Try to produce handsets in different OS with best integration to their BES.

If they do this, they might still have a shot. Else, they would simply become a stubborn company that will die eventually.

The thing is, if their OS is not working in the market, why insist on it?! join the crowd and make some cash out of it rather than spending money/resource on something that's losing steam.
