You have to keep in mind that Buffetts view of a bottom is not your average person's view of a bottom. He's willing to invest over a horizon of 5-15 years. He has enough money to invest like that.

For us, it's like lime of 2-8 hours horizon (lol) or 4444 of 6 months to 2 years. (I hope I'm right).

long term, this is a hugely cheap market, some ppl trade for a quick buck, others (yours truly) invest their portion of their paycheque for a long time from now

invest in good companies, with a good product and great management at historically cheap prices, and you'll be richer than if you didn't is my general motto.
some of us don't have the time or stomach for quick trades

On this topic... what is the difference between:

Bank of America Corp. PRFD 'D': NYSE:BAC-D quotes & news - Google Finance
Bank of America Corp. PRFD 'E': NYSE:BAC-E quotes & news - Google Finance
Bank of America Corp. PRFD 'J': NYSE:BAC-J quotes & news - Google Finance

These are 3 types of preferred shares, each at different values.. is there any way I can look into them and see their return? How do preferred shares work?
All I THINK I know is that if/when a company defaults, bond holders and preferred share holders get their money back before the general stock holder population right?

Usually the difference is in voting rights, dividend, cumulative/perpetual.

just did a quick read up on investopedia on common vs preferred stocks
What is the difference between preferred stock and common stock?

Looks like a good deal to do this, whats the downside of preferred shares though?
