nice bump in westport innovations today - i've been watching it recently, was hoping the freefall would take it to its long term resistance of $20... but no dice based on today's announcement.
great long term play that - but will be volatile as oil goes up, as can be seen in its chart, from $20 to $40 and back down

I like how we can all get together here and be greedy/self serving.
This is by far, my favorite part of RS lol.
I'm currently 60k in equities, and 70k in cash... looking for the right opportunity but I can't help but think the euro shit storm is coming.

Playing a simulator on wallstreetsurvivor.com with my class
Followed jasons footsteps, bought xiv, now currently 1st in my class
It's all pretty interesting, browsing stocks, the effect of news and politics on stocks, but i'm sure this is just the tip of the iceberg.
I'm sure this question has been asked before, but where can i learn more?

(though at a more severe rate due to the 2x/3x leverage)
There is nothing wrong with holding either of these etn's longer than a day, a week, or even for months. But due to the recent market volatility if you were to plan on holding for any extended duration you would likely cross over your buy-in price on multiple occasions, defeating the incentive to hold as you could have traded it on a number of occasions and made some profit. The trouble with holding overnight is that you are really at the mercy of overnight markets and foreign news, the movement of the major indices has, as of late, been purely on the basis of speculation and psycology... fundementals dont seem to be a factor. So based on this I play the two ETN's based primarily on political and financial headlines.
There is better ways to play the ups and downs with options, i prefer the index based etn because i do not have the additional worry and research associated with playing the options of specific equities. With an index based etn you need to worry about general market sentiment, with equities you have to worry about market sentiment and the particular aspects of that specific equity. (Such as the specific operating industry, financials, management issues, geo political issues, individual commodity prices, etc which imo leave you more exposed to risk)
Thats just my 0.02, doesnt mean any of it is right lol.
Holding overnight can really pay off, or really suck. Depends on your level of risk tolerance really, i've held overnight and been burnt, and also been rewarded. For me with the euro situation as it is, any entry point around 9$ on the tvix is worth playing.... At least for now... Though the tvix will never again hit the 80$ range it did in october 2011, there is still potential for an two bagger+ if any of these eurotard nations have a social meltdown.

what you say all makes sense, and is completely true, but my question is moreso, how would you estimate the direction of the market, do you find that if sentiment is negative (usually driven by an overnight or early morning news story), that during trading, hte index will generally get more and more negative?
reason I ask that is due to the recent late day rallies back to break even in the indicies, to me I always like to think that whatever news is out there from before open is baked into the indicies, and that any movement during the day is a result of either a) news from during market hours (which you can't predict), or b) major players doing things that I cannot control or know about (recent late day rallies, short covering, etc).
i find this kind of stuff fascinating as it is totally not how i trade (well, i don't really trade - and when i have done, its usually not worked out so well)

There was a trend when i first started trading it of a slow daily decline in the index, where as last week it was the opposite with late day rallies.
So yes initially it was buy tvix in the am on the downward momentum, but last week that didnt work so well, but with the gradual upward momemtum it was time to play the xiv in the am. Sounds obvious now but at the time of course there was no way to know how the days would end.
My basic strategy for tvix right now is to take a position anytime the price is <9$, as i am pretty confident that before the greek election there will be more downward pressure on the markets, enough to push the price well over 10$. But between now and then i will continue to make plays on the daily ups and downs if i can make 5%. The downside of this is sellIng early in a potential rally for tvix on some really bad news.
Edit: Well I was right about TVIX going down more lol... closed at 8.09... down 5800$ lol

Yukon Nevada Gold News Release: (Not going to spoiler this one cause it's pretty short)
Without knowing the "toll" details, it's hard to know just how good this news is, though at the same time it makes me wonder if they are having trouble feeding the mill with their own resources.. mehhh who knows. Yukon-Nevada Gold Corp. - News Releases - Yukon-Nevada Gold Corp. Signs Agreement with Allied Nevada to Process Hycroft Loaded Carbon - Thu Jun 7, 2012...

Yukon-Nevada Gold Corp. Signs Agreement with Allied Nevada to Process Hycroft Loaded Carbon
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vancouver, BC -- June 7, 2012 -- Yukon-Nevada Gold Corp. (TSX: YNG) (Frankfurt Xetra Exchange: NG6) ("YNG" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that it has entered into an arrangement with Allied Nevada Gold Corp. ("Allied Nevada") to process Hycroft gold and silver laden carbon in the carbon plant at the Jerritt Canyon milling facility located in Elko County, Nevada. The terms of the agreement are in-line with previous arrangements Allied Nevada had with other offsite processing facilities. Jerritt Canyon is operated by Queenstake Resources USA Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of the Company.
Randy Reichert, Chief Operating Officer said, "We will process this material under a tolling arrangement. Revenues from this arrangement will be credited against operating costs. Normal gold production from the Smith mine, SXX/Steer mine and from stockpiles will continue as usual at the Jerritt Canyon milling facility for the duration of this agreement."
Hycroft expects to ship the first lot of carbon in early June. Under the terms of the arrangement, in the initial 90 - 120 days following signing of the agreement all of the carbon currently in inventory at Hycroft is expected to be processed. After this initial period, between 15 and 30 tons per month may be processed. Hycroft currently generates approximately 15 to 20 tons of carbon per month.
Yukon-Nevada Gold Corp. is a North American gold producer in the business of discovering, developing and operating gold deposits. The Company holds a diverse portfolio of gold, silver, zinc and copper properties in the Yukon Territory and British Columbia in Canada and in Nevada in the United States. The Company's focus has been on the acquisition and development of late stage development and operating properties with gold as the primary target. Continued growth will occur by increasing or initiating production from the Company's existing properties.

Markets seem to think something big/positive is coming. Like QE3 or a giant EU bailout for struggling nations like Spain. TVIX has been sliding the past 2-3 days. Sold it for a small loss yesterday because I am having a hard time reading it.
Next EU fire storm will lift it up again.

Spain will seek bailout up to $125 billion.
I don't even know if this is going to be a + or - on the markets anymore.

Greek election slowly starting to heat up...

Good day for me in terms of recovering lol.
Wild trading range for TVIX, 6.72 to 8.23. Could have made 18% today if you bought at the low!

I am pretty much all cash now except I loaded 50k worth of URRE@0.67. Gonna leave it until the entire Europe shit ends.
Feels good when your action accounts almost 1/5 of the entire day transaction.
