Are you gonna be playing AAPL?

Can't remember the last time they had a product announcement going into earnings

gdoh 10-16-2012 11:14 AM

just bought some ROG @ 0.78

they are supposed to come out with some pretty good holes in the near future and could possibly have a buy out

Probably not. I'll just stick to the sidelines for AAPL this time for these reasons:

1. Uncertainty. Q4 earnings is gonna suck, but the street is now expecting this. Thus, AAPL's earnings could actually be inline with the street

2. Hype of the Ipad Mini. Product Earnings a week before earnings ? Good news induced by the company before earnings ? It could be AAPL trying to soften the blow on a bad quarter. AAPL tries to mix in news opposite to what is expected in earnings. I still remember AAPL announcing Steve Jobs taking an indefinite leave on Jan 2011 the day before earnings. They had a monster Q1 but stock fell a bit before it rebounded the next month.

3. Hype on Q1. This quarter won't bode well for AAPL, but next quarter earnings will certainly kick ass. Will big money slowly buy in or wait til December (like last year) ?

Sideways to bearish for me. I'll play this with my play money account.

How about you ?

Gonna start trading ES next year.... my body is ready.

Thoughts on SPY? Analyst say that the S&P is on a channel to a high of 1,495 by the end of the year.

Am I the only one skeptical about this? I really think the rally is all pre-election hype. GDP growth and QE3 do not support this rally.

Anyone looking at getting back into CUU?

shawnly1000 10-18-2012 08:46 AM

Did you guys see GOOG?

Twitter got earnings PR a good 10-12 minutes before the street/CNBC...watched it drop to 735 and then when the street/CNBC finally "broke" the news, nosedive down to 685

Would've been an extremely juicy puts play

highfive 10-18-2012 09:50 AM

Yep. Jon Najarian tweeted. GOOG $675 puts went from .40 to $20.

FUCKING CRAZY.

Yeah, who here caught some money ?

Man, I need to follow more people in my twitter other than Bloomberg and CNBC.

Geoc 10-18-2012 11:49 AM

That's it, I'm signing up for a twitter account lol

Also, HFTs have been screwing with the stocks for past year. It makes level 2 analysis completely useless

On a side note bought into Mannkind (MNKD) today ... Pretty speculative play... first started following the stock in august and was waiting for the dilution to happen before buying

Still hitting myself for not clicking submit when I was one click away from shorting google at 750. Bought today at 675 as I feel it was oversold. Gonna go long on this one.

strykn 10-19-2012 03:15 PM

Depends on what companies you're playing, commodities got slammed today. And a lot of companies have yet to catch up.

Not familiar with that stock but you were asking about DJIA ETFs, well SPY and DJIA ETFs move about the same and ES is SPY in futures form so the movements are the same. Each of those 4 upward sloping lines I drew in are just channels that it will stay in. I thought that higher one would hold but it busted thru.

It just blows my mind how it always stays in these channels. Even after big sell offs like friday when it went to the bottom prong, today it bounces up.
Of course as usual,

How did you know the bears would win? Lions suck. I can't believe all the turnovers.
