Marijuana is all speculation since most of the companies aren't even turning profits right now.
Get in now and wait 3-5 years and it hopefully blows up.

Speaking of speculation, what is your take on Snapchat's IPO on March 2nd?
Although this company has yet to turn a profit, the valuation for this company is between 20 to 23 billion US.
I just don't see any long term profitability with this company. In fact, their burn rate of expenses is immense.
A buddy of mine wants to buy Snapchat on IPO day and day trade it for quick gains simply on speculation that investor hype will boost the stock price. http://www.usatoday.com/story/opinio...lumn/97916572/

A buddy of mine wants to buy Snapchat on IPO day and day trade it for quick gains simply on speculation that investor hype will boost the stock price. The Snapchat IPO and California math: Column | i've never dabble in IPO. investing in IPO is totally different from buying a establish stock. If you friends are looking at this like buying a new iPhone on launch day than flipping it to frenzy buyers its not going to work the same way.
IMO Snapchat is asking for a crazy valuation. I personally don't understand or use Snapchat but from my understanding it captures the teenager crowd which is a key consumer demographic. The are also building a big database of facial recognition datas (I feel like this is missing from a lot of analyze of Snapchat, As far as I can tell they are the only widely use app that is able to collect facial recognition data). There ads are also quite unique compare to other social media platform and encourage a different kind of engagement, due to the uniqueness and the nature of the advertisement it tends to draw a lot of big names instead of the gazillion mom and pop shop that instagram/facebook currently targets. How viable this model or whether they will tweak it for a broader market is remains to be seen.
In term of the numbers, high expense and burn rate is very typical of fledgling tech companies. In fact if they are hoarding cash at this point of instead of aggressively using it the expand, purchase and conquer they are doing doing it wrong. In fact wall street has been critical of Apple's hoard of cash that they are sitting on instead of spending it for expansion and r&d, acquisition etc.
You can't look at company balance sheet like your personal bank account. The key thing isn't the burn rate but what they are burning it on.
On the other hand Snapchat turn down some high profile big number acquisition offer. In the Tech startup world this is huge, It could mean the company is indeed visionary orrrrrrr they are looking for more money to line their pockets (specially the couple stakeholders). There was news of disgruntled ex employee that claim to have evidence of number fudging for this IPO.
I'm still not sure about SnapChat. On one hand it feels like it could be another twitter, on the other it could be the next FB. One thing for sure is I won't be touching in its IPO days. Oh and when a company IPOs you are not allow to short it for a couple month, this may or may not mean something but the absence of bears could greatly affect the momentum of a overhype stock like SNAP. |

Reminiscence of a stock operator. Classic 101 stock trading.
For a beginner I would say find and follow a mentor, find your style and product that fit you. And expect to lose money so play small. Learn TA to find high risk/reward trade but master your inner psychology first because you can manipulate any chart to make it look bullish or bearish.

I'd put it into high interest savings. You'd get like a 5 dollar return. Better than nothing. LOL.
Putting it into USD isn't a bad idea, I did the calculation, you would have made 300 dollars. Assuming you bought USD with CAD. XE: USD / CAD Currency Chart. US Dollar to Canadian Dollar Rates
However, if you bought in the month of December 2015, you would have lost even more.

I still own all my shares of Mobileye. -just cannot buy any more shares of the company.

I looked up what happens to stocks when a company is bought out, here is what I found:
Cash or Stock Mergers
For shareholders, mergers can occur two ways. In a cash exchange, the controlling company will buy the shares at the proposed price, and the shares will disappear from the owner's portfolio, replaced with the corresponding amount of cash. Other times, companies will announce a stock-for-stock merger, in which holders of shares of the takeover company will have that stock replaced with shares of the new company. Often, the deal is structured as a combination of both methods, with shareholders receiving some cash and some stocks. What Happens to a Stock When a Company Is Bought Out? | Chron.com
It makes sense, unless you guys have another view on it.
