Just holding until something is announced then reevaluating.

I bought in at $13, so there is a potential downside of 30% if it happens to drop back to the $10 NAV, but with who's on the management team, I don't think it will happen even if it ends up not being Tokopedia.

It went up as high as $19-20 during premarket today. I think someone knows something because generally SPACs trade flat until certain catalysts like a target is announced, letter of intent, etc.

New year, new TFSA contribution room. What are you guys putting it into?

Why?! With mortgage rates as low as they are it is incredibly hard to justify repaying debt instead of investing unless you are really close to making a move or something.

This has always been my dilemma and my financial advisor has to decipher for me.

1) it's so cheap to borrow, take as long as possible to pay.
2) Faster I pay off, I will then get better rental income.

Each time i see an advisor, they always try to sell me packages and never really answer which one i should do; cause come on... they all make money if i put in RRSP / RESP / TFSA etc.

My wife and I dumped a ton of money on our mortgage at the end of the year because we are looking at upgrading in the next 12 to 18 months. Then we can just draw the equity out and have a bigger down payment.

I'm also wondering where people are putting their new contribution room - I now have some extra money sitting around that will go into TFSA and RRSP in the next month or two. RRSP has been Vanguard ETF's in the past - but I like to be more aggressive in my TFSA. I've been doing a lot of research into the renewables sector but I got confused AF as their is a lot of differing opinions to sift through.

what do you mean by this? you mean you'll have more income because you don't have to pay your mortgage for as long? i think the idea is that if you invest the money and you're far outperforming your mortgage interest rate, then despite having to pay your mortgage for longer, you have a far greater net worth.

$TAN gang for the more risky portfolio.

If apple really is developing a car, that could be the innovation they have been lacking post
Jobs.

Very tempted to add to my position overtime given the speculation on who is involved and apples track record

Try looking at $ICLN, its an ETF for renewable energy companies. If you want to take on more risk, perhaps stock pick from that portfolio. Otherwise, just purchase the ETF as it has been doing well lately.

They were promoting an Apple car like 2 years ago or more weren't they?!

I was looking into ICLN a few days ago - makes me nervous that it has jumped considerably in the last few months. It also has a lot of solar allocated in its weighting, which I'm not too hot about compared to other forms. However an ETF is likely more preferable for a sector that is likely going to experience ups and downs over the next few years. With Biden coming in, I am expecting that there will be more resources put towards clean energy, however it is hard to say since there will continue to be a reliance on oil and gas.

rental income is covering my prop fees + mortgage. I'm net positive say 100-200 dollars a month.

if i put down 10k in RRSP yes I get a huge deduction (1 time) to bring down my income tax; hoping to get tax return.

Say i pay it my mortgage off this yr... it's pure rental income I'm collecting.

unit 01-05-2021 11:24 AM

if you're that close to paying off the mortgage and you want to free up some cash with rental income then it's not a bad decision to pay it off then. the difference is going to be pretty small

What SPACs are you guys currently looking at?

Still in BFT, BTWN. Got rid of my GHIV, RMG, and NGA.

Looking to get some BTNB when it becomes available, but nothing else really interests me right now. I believe Gores filed for a new SPAC recently that will be available around the same time.

Bought some MARA/DMGI and that has been working out well.

On a sidenote, if Democrats take the Senate tonight, I expect a pretty decent pop for all the clean energy, EV, and weed stocks.

ButterFingers 01-05-2021 05:31 PM

Any reason you sold GHIV before merger on the 20th? Gores has GRSV near NAV, I believe its around half a year old, so maybe they'll have a target soon/ LOI.

Currently all in GHIV, looking to move it in a week to some other SPACs like BFT, GIK, GRSV, and maybe FUSE if it drops to the 10s

GHIV seemed the least likely to move out of the other positions I had so I sold it to make a position in MARA and DMGI. Was getting a bit of FOMO with crypto rising again.

I believe UWM is doing an earnings report on the 12th, so I might buy back in because I think the numbers must be extremely attractive for them to do the merger after it.

SBE.

If no one has a battery swap technology like NIO, we all going to need charging stations. Makes sense to me. SBE is going to have a merger with Charging point this month of the 15th.

Mr.Money 01-07-2021 08:19 PM

anyone notice a slight boost in vaccine medical companies lately?.

it's just the beginning right now its rolling out as in a trickle so i'm wondering if there's any profit to be made right now once things really get moving in the future for more countries :suspicious:

Sbe I think is a little on the high side but who knows. Nio does have battery swap technology but they’re limiting it to 6 times/month. So you will still need to charge here and there so perhaps it might be a good investment.

Currently holding nio, bft, and nndm.
Nndm is looking really good considering ark keeps dumping money into them. 700m I cash and no debt

Couple ones I’m watching
Bngo, chek, zom, mp materials, alpp, Abml, and ttcf
