with the Q2 reports out tomorrow...

here's the crop reports out today:

Quote:
Corn production is forecast at 12.3 billion bushels, down 6 percent from last year but 17 percent above 2006. Based on conditions as of August 1, yields are expected to average 155.0 bushels per acre, up 3.9 bushels from last year. If realized, this yield would be the second highest on record, behind 2004. Production would be the second highest on record, behind last year when producers harvested the most acres of corn for grain since 1933. Forecasted yields are higher than last year in the northern and eastern Corn Belt, Ohio and Tennessee Valleys, and northern half of the Atlantic Coast where frequent precipitation this year contrasted with extremely dry weather last year. Expected yields across the southern half of the Great Plains and the Carolinas are below last year due to drought-like conditions throughout much of the growing season. Growers expect to harvest 79.3 million acres for grain, up 350,000 acres from June but 8 percent lower than last year.

agreed

I am currently 100% cash position, cash is king right now.

Someone laughed at me because I chose US stock portfolio, while his Canadian portfolio was gaining.

He wasn't laughing anymore, and I think he has been skipping Starbucks sessions these few days

alot of money leaving stocks and going into cash/bonds pushing 20 and 30 year bond yields down, which may speed up the housing recovery i guess i dunno

That's gonna hurt! I am guessing it will drop more than 50% on Monday Morning. I am not surprised if Freddie traded below $2 and Fannie below $3

Holy.. I hope your friend didn't put it too much money on Fannie!

Not necessary a bad thing, *depending where he got in* imho. Those 2 are too heavily backed by the Feds to have any issues with them. (if they go under 1.3trillion dollars of insured-mortgages go down the tube.)

Bill Gross has over 60% of his bonds in Fanny and Freddy, that does tell you something.

In theory yes, except he's on margin and I fully expect FNM to open below $5 tomorrow.

Nothing beats a margin call

On margin is not a bad thing?
Not bad until your stock is down 89+%! Average margin account interest is about 6-7% annually.
Basically the FNM position is a "write-off". In order for $1 to bounce back to $5.. you need 500% gain! While you wait for that, you have to pay interest on the margin.

Hope that he only have invested few thousands in FNM.

Yeah, a few thousand on the Margin. He is panicing right now. Personally I dont think FNM will EVER bounce back above $2 without any news from the US Gov't. Wait till it hits .3 and get de-listed LOL

FNM is sitting on .74 AH, I might get some and see if it will have a BSC thing depending on the tradings, but the market is so freaking volitile these days I feel really uneasy trading, especially the financials since nothing has changed and the underlying market conditions remained largely the same.
