the package deals (22 million) to give to senior execs are RETARDED in like 2 weeks prior to collapse but you can't blame him on the collapse. not all of it anyways FEDS are just looking for someone to pin this on.

they made some bad bets, and he will get creamed for it

I just heard this on the radio today. ha

I think it was originally a 30mil?

Anyhow, I think stock will really continue to go down, but great news for those who have cash right now to jump in, in a few more weeks. US cannot afford to have a prolonged recession. Fed will do something and more. Today's Fed purchasing commercial papers is just a start.

I am really tempted to invest a little, maybe 10k to test this market.

take a look at the spread/interest rate they are asking.

whatever profit you might make goes there, not to mention 95% of the people loses money doing that

my bet is that the 10k, in 10-15yrs you'll see that 2 things: Ten Folds increase, or the Japan Effect: 10k, not a single change. =)

PNF: i wonder how much money can the feds dish out: AIG from the 85billion bailout already used 61billion, in what? 2 weeks?

700 billion is nothing considering sept29, 1.3 trillion vanished (figure from news1130)

for the past two days.. dropping nearly 1000 points, that means another 1.3+ trillion losses

next monday could be interesting. 3peat!

Half-point rate cut...
I hope the market can hold the gain throughout the day.
I do think the market is due for a bear-market bounce.

I dont know how to answer your question, but in short, as much as needed to inject confidence back into inter-bank lending. The only thing I know is that the US cannot loose another big 4 investment firm or any of the big insurance/banks.

As to the trillions of dollars lost.. its really sad and AVERAGE JOEs are actually beginning to feel the impact of all these financial melt-downs. I was just having lunch with a couple co-workers and recently, most of the topics are on.. their 401K, pension, etc. Even though many of them have not seen their 3Q result yet, but they are anticipating a loss of 15-20%!!

15-20% OF YOUR LIFE TIME SAVING/PENSION!!!!! Say if you have $500K saved so far in the past 20 years.. thats a loss of 75-100K in a couple months!!!!!!!!

(I have just started, so not much impact on me YET), but still.

Also, there is a vicious circle going on right now. Imagine this scenario.

You go to work, and go into a meeting. Now, everyone is telling you that this director XYZ is sick, but XYZ is saying he is NOT sick. Would you still go near him or sit by him? Probably not. Maybe some will.

Now, that XYZ is the US economy. It is sick, but the US Economy itself is saying "I am not sick".. lol.. ok, you get the analogy. For now and the next 3-6 months, if I were to invest, I'd invest in something safe and stable with low risk. Definitely not touch financial firms within the next couple months, as they may not have bottomed yet, believe it or not.

its just a mess now.

Canadian Oil Sands Trusts (COS-UN.TO) is an interesting one to look for, BNN guys like it - funny that a fund manager was saying he's picking it up below $38... today it's down to $31

Visa (V) is now at the IPO opening of about $50... ended around $52 today... could be worthwhile. Didn't someone still have MAstercard from $170...?

Gold going thru the roof it seems... think it'll go through $1k next week? For those who believe the 10% portfolio in bullion and such, you'd be surprised local bullions are running out of silver/gold bullion and are selling at a 30-40% premium. Check VBCE for silver prices for example.

Some interesting pro-gold sites. People in the US really seem to be panicking now... the slowdown has hit mainstream and is very real even for the average joe. If you have any US dollar it's a great time to sell it and exchange it back to CDN... 0.89:1 today ...unbelievable how US can be up at a time like this... esp given our interest rate is still 1% higher?
