i did some search on difference between stock and stock option....

why you buying option here? it seems more risky?

^By that I meant GM's stock is so cheap right now, buying a hundred shares of them is the same as buying an option on GM, since most option are for 100 of shares of a stock.

and the risk/return potential is similar too, it can go to 0 or go up 20-30% in a day/week.

It all depends of if you're playing speculative bets or actual proper trades.

If you have some money to lose then dump it in there.

guys, been watching GM stock for couple days, it dropped from as high as $ 2.3 a share back to $1.16 a share in just 3 to 4 days. my buddy bought a fairly large amount at 1.9 something.

So all the information so far is that GM is very likely to declare bankcrupt (or bankcrupt protection in a few days). Since i am a newbie to stock trading, what kinda impact should be expected for this ? Falling stock price?

if gm doesnt file for bankruptcy and gets out of this one, your friend will most likely get his money back and maybe more. if it files that chapter 11, the stock will be worth pennies..as it stands, the price of gm is in the middle of that $1.90 entry point and the pennies.

to assess this, do your friend believe theres more than 50% chance of not filing for chapter 11? baccarat is close to 50/50 in the casino so maybe thats a better choice. good luck as i think time is running out for your friend.

oh well, its not entirely 50/50. cuz the time he bought the shares are GM just closed a deal with UAW and offering bondholder shares in exchange of debt, which was good signs that GM can still keep up. ......

Unless someone has insider information (which is obviously not the case here) this kind of stock trading is like gambling only worse. These are the same people who argue with me that trading stocks is the same as gambling. If you make trades like that you are leaving most of it to chance.

I would rather go to the casino since you can double your money in a few minutes. The stock market takes much longer

Well because I believe CAD is over valued against USD right now.

.9 is the target I set to buy USD with CAD
