i bought some BP in the very low $30's, only a small holding, i have a lot of concerns about its future earnings and dividend due to the oil spill, but like the post above said, crude should be pretty volitile, they are expecting one of the heaviest hurricane season this summer, any supply shortage issues should benefit BP's stock price

anyone else thinking of picking up JAV in the near future?

Tesla Motors (Nasdaq: TSLA)

We expressed amazement that shares of Tesla Motors shot up so quickly following its IPO.

Well, sanity has been restored, as shares crashed back down in subsequent sessions. But they're still overvalued, and could eventually fall by half from current levels.

A look back at the history of Delorean Motor Cars is instructive. That car maker -- made famous in the movie Back to the Future -- told investors that it needed to make 20,000 cars every year to break even. But went on to make only 10,000 cars -- in its entire three-year history.

Action to Take --> Tesla has only sold roughly 1,000 vehicles in two years, and you could argue that the total market for expensive niche cars like this never exceed a few thousand. At some point, it will dawn on investors that Tesla is unlikely to ever turn a profit. Despite the pullback, this looks ripe for shorts.

so what does everybody think about the stock market and the economy in general now?

are we in for a double dip or is this just a correction?

I for one think this is just a correction and that things are still recovering, albeit at a much smaller pace.

Thoughts?

ehhhwik 07-06-2010 10:58 PM

i feel we're at the bottom end of the correction on Monday, as the summer rolls on, I'm bullish on crude and nat gas, and bought some HGD as it's quite obvious there's a pull back on bullion as the concerns in Europe subsides

I'm still holding my BP shares. I was lucky to get in at 27.01 - 27.03. That's probably going to be my last play of the year. I picked up ESU0 for 1004 which I'm still holding. I will probably hold the rest of the year but my trailing stop is at 20 points below at 1050 now.

I had no idea it was going to rebound that fast otherwise I would have purchased a few hundred more.

If anyone would like to get together for another trading session please let me know. I think Ulic wouldn't mind helping out with it as well although I know he's taken a break from trading (I have as well other than these two plays this year).

More strong drill results from CAN today, opened @ $1.06, @ $1.11 now.

Rev 07-12-2010 02:51 PM

If you like that type of tight deal play look at Foundation FDN - similar run recently on new project/company

Back then only had 8 milllion shares out and decent cash / historic deposit

7seven 07-13-2010 06:09 AM

CAN moving again this morning, $1.31 right now ;)

gdoh 07-13-2010 06:14 AM

BP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Carl Johnson 07-15-2010 08:41 PM

Hell, I don't usually like to brag or anything. But if you've listened to me, you've just made 10 bucks on a 30 bucks stock in 2 weeks. Some people would kill to make that kind of return in a year =D

Carl Johnson 07-15-2010 08:47 PM

It's okay if you missed the move though. Keep a close eye on on APC. This guy has potential although I wouldn't chase it.

I bought some activision blizzard stock ATVI on Friday.

With Starcraft 2, World of Warcraft expansion, Diablo 3, Call of Duty etc
I predict some strong profits!

van_driver 07-18-2010 02:54 PM

gearshifter 07-18-2010 04:08 PM

Question...:

How much do we get taxed for capital gains?

IIRC.. It's 50% of your earnings from stocks that are taxable? But whats the tax rate?

no_clue 07-18-2010 05:58 PM

tax rate is same as your income tax

50% of the capital gains is taxable, to clarify.
