i doubt it can be un-intentional. If you wanna get hit by the train, you're gonna get hit. If you don't, stand behind the yellow line, unless there was some kind of foul play involved..

This is real. It happened about Wednesday night at about 11pm. I saw it on the 11:30pm news and I know someone who got there just as they were closing the station down. Millenium line was closed from Renfrew to VCC. http://www.news1130.com/news/local/a...11_073508_6764 |

It's actually fairly common. There are numerous people who commit suicide by jumping in front of the Skytrain every year. http://www.vancourier.com/issues04/1...122104nn1.html Quote:
In 2003, eight people committed suicide on the system

There was one at Commercial (the lower one) at about 9 at night on wednesday. That was really annoying. 10 minutes later and I'd've been on the train to where I was going but noooooooooo, there had to be a jumper.

I heard that if the track detects something on the rails, the nearest skytrain does an emergency stop? Apparently it stops so fast that everyone standing will immediately fall down and there is a possibility of serious injuries.
Is this true? I have never been on the train when it does an emergency stop.

there was one time i was inbetween new west and 22nd i think it was, or maybe it was royal oak and edmonds, but out of the blue...the train locks it up for a couple seconds, for seemingly no reason....and then goes on its merry way...i was reading a book, and i was all like "Wtf is with all the gforce...wait, why are we braking so hard..."

Is this true? I have never been on the train when it does an emergency stop. | well not everyone falls, but its pretty sudden. just think 80km/h to a sudden stop, quite the jolt.

I used to work right near a major skytrain station and I could see directly down at it. Let's just say people jumping in front of a skytrain happens more often than most of you think (atleast more often than I thought). The incidents rarely make the news and they always shut down the station briefly due to "a medical emergency". They don't like announcing what happened (i'm sure they have a good reason for it)
So i wouldn't be surprised if it was another suicide incident. From what I've seen, they usually get the situation cleaned up pretty quickly. I've never timed it, but I don't think I've ever seen a situation take longer than an hour. (hence why some of you are saying you didn't notice any disruption in service)

I doubt they would publish any figures like that, but as I said in my previous post, there were eight in 2003.

many yrs ago i was taking the skytrain and as it arrived at boradway station the train derailed momentarily and everybody were lifted off their seat at least several inches (i was in the first train). it felt like going over a speedbump at 60K/hr...for a brief sec there i thought we were gonna tip over and fall off the station into the alley behind mcd's...then there was a loud bang as the train's wheels contacted the tracks again and continue moving forward and screeeeeched to a halt.
everybody was like wtf happened but kinda knew...and yes somebody was under the train. pretty nasty....
then the very next day i heard from my friend that the train was stuck again because another person jumped on the tracks at joyce.
these things happen so often these days.
