Duane didnt bring his supra, err he wasnt going to i dont think, he was gonna bring the 12 sec cutlass tho

Enraged 05-04-2003 05:28 PM

im back to coppers, i was using Bosch plats, they are garbage... im using champion coppers now. change them out every 2nd oil change (takes about 15-30 min for me to swap them out). cost $11 for 6 at lordco i think, rather than $90 for NGK plats (stock plugs).

Paradox 05-04-2003 05:30 PM

hey Dave on a NA it shouldnt really matter, if you're up for changing the gap every so often just get the cheap plugs and then maybe the NGK or Bosch plug wires... from what ive heard the best plug wires to stop detonation with our cars are actually the factory ones. altho NGK Lasers come in a close second then Bosch, etc etc..

ive used both NGK and Bosch plugs and noticed a tiny bit of a difference, but nothing special. if i had to choose id say NGK is better.

NashMan 05-04-2003 09:14 PM

well that was fun dunae never got back to e so i choudl nto meet up whith him oh well

still fun as meet

as for wirres are nice there seal good on to the plug but bugger to gett off btu that is good

to cheak your wires take maulty meter to them cheak them out or look at the boost and see if there be eaten away by oil and stuff so they don't seal

Paradox 05-04-2003 09:22 PM

got pics?

Paradox 05-04-2003 10:39 PM

SilverMK3 05-06-2003 02:55 PM

Heh, strongbad does rule :)

Anyway I took Ryans advice and i cancelled the order for the Titan MHG and ordered the stock Toyota HG for $96.

Do you think I should get the Toyota top-end rebuilt set for $320? It includes their stock HG plus every gasket you need for taking apart the head.

it looks like I can keep my stock wires, they look like they've been recently replaced anyway, but I'll need new plugs. I'll probably get the NGK Coppers for $3/ea.

How much do you think machining the head and/or block will be? I don't think its blown too badly since I only drove it for about 3-4 minutes after I noticed the smoke and it never overheated.

NashMan 05-06-2003 03:26 PM

as i said befor put the top end rebuld your goig to need it buy gasket peacs bay peac is gona cost you more

as for blocvk work i guess about 200 or so for head wrok and weil you there replace all the gasket that need replace liek get it re shimmed new guids all that stuff that way it will never ave prob whiht leakign vavle stems or gudis ect

head work will cost you liek 400 bucks that whiht new shims gudies ect

it just why not thign it better ot do plus when you wan tot sell the car you can say that is is done and be alot easyer to sell and get better resale as well

if i was in the same boat as you i whoudl do ti

NashMan 05-06-2003 03:29 PM

dang i am on hold right now doing the swap i need 17 mill deep socket and i don't have one so i got to run to the store

Enraged 05-06-2003 05:33 PM

so your putting on murrays old turbo, and then getting your old one rebuilt at some point?

NashMan 05-06-2003 06:00 PM

maybe see i oder the gasket kit for toyota so it coem swhiht the oil seal and stuff for the turbo so it will be liek brand new turbo

Paradox 05-06-2003 10:45 PM

uhh my car STILL wont start

im getting closer tho, think i need to change the oil and the plugs and maybe take back my aurora's for new ones (lifetime warranty)

other then that, i didnt find much for water inside my pistons today, i cranked it over without the EFI fuse and all the plugs out, then stuffed some vacuum hose down there and tried to suck out anything i could find, there was just gas fumes.... :D

i didnt have plugs to swap with so i cleaned off my old bosch's with sandpaper, which id guess isnt good enough....

BTW. i tightened my valve cover screws up like not 3 months ago and they were already loose today. reminder to anyone who hasnt done it recently

Paradox 05-06-2003 10:55 PM

dave you should definetaly get the rebuild kit too, btw.. best to do it now then have to buy the shit by itself later on, you'll save cash this way

go strongbad! :p

murray, go to lordco and pick up some plated hex head bolts size M6 x 30mm with 1 or 2 lockwashers for each bolt (total 12 bolts, 24 lock washers). bolt them down, they wont back out. cost $1.36 for them i think

NashMan 05-07-2003 02:06 PM

see if the stock rubber seat are there and i good shape the bolts wonte back out i got new ones so it will not do that

or the hex ones but i liek the sock shinny bolts plus it stock

Enraged 05-07-2003 08:43 PM

the bolts will back out by design. spend $1.36 and you never have to worry about it again. no reason not to, unless your extremely cheap and/or stubborn.

oh, and bolts look better than the lame phillips head stockers.

hehe i like the dumb looking stock ones heheh and the rubber stock one will not back out in less there not new and don't use thread lock

you do it right it will never back out tell the rubber seal go on them

say right in the tsmr and all of the hanyes to put thread lock on them

THE WHITE SHARK IS ALIVE!!!

2 goddamn months of trying to figure out what in the hell is wrong with it, working on it most days just tweaking minor shit... and all of a sudden, today it decides to start up!

after spraying out all the valve covers, fuel rail, and down into the pistons with compressed air, cleaning up and tightening everything.. etc etc etc.... i was getting to the point where i was about to yank off the intake manifold and get in there to clean and check for any broken wires :evil i thought that rat in my engine had to have chewed up some of the wires

then i swapped to some champion plugs, which helped even more... btw toby these things are already pre-gapped. haha, how stupid is that... when i checked my NGKs when i got them they needed to be gapped, and those cost what, $90? christ i forget.... anyways the champion plugs were all set at .31

... it RUNS NOW... yes it even turned over on its own power. i am running kinda lean at idle, and i only changed 4 of 6 spark plugs today.. oil needs to be changed to.. blah blah

my mommy took me out for a drive today :lol the car feels great. just needs some tuning

heres a video of living proof the shark is living again! as you can see my ECU is so outta whack it isnt even funny, not to mention the timing is just slightly off :D

This is the first time its moved under its own power in a LONG time

not to steal murrays thunder, but

ITS ALIVE!

haha

fixed my car, a few new hoses, new plugs, changed the oil, mbc is set around stock boost for now. i still have to replace one hose, and i have to pick up some more mini hose clamps, and a few more t-bolts, but shes running smooth, nice and strong, boost comes on stronger with the mbc even though it was set around 6 psi. i played with it a bit, im just below 0.5 bar right now, its fine for now, ill probably get the precat cut out this week, then set it to 8 psi...

still gotta bleed the brakes too, ive been putting it off.. oh well...

i can DRIVE! haha
