so that makes me and toby with functional supras.... im guessing ryans is down for the turbo, what about dave? heh.. |
Do you guys always forget about me because I'm not on the island, or is it personal? :( |
Heh, nothin' personal. Count yourself lucky that you weren't one of the four of us w/ nonfunctional supras over the last week. Its a GOOD thing you weren't included, trust me ;) Anyway, I'm still down, but the Toyota gasket set came in today, $370 later... My car was down for 4 weeks, and I just got it running 2 weeks ago. http://www.fuzebox.org/photos/03-30-...010006.640.jpg http://www.fuzebox.org/photos/03-30-...010007.640.jpg http://www.fuzebox.org/photos/03-30-...010012.640.jpg |
hey fuze box did you ever get pics of you crank and stuff on how fucked up it looked ps the car is going to be off the road for bit as in i have not clue how long both turbo's have about the same play so i am thinking to myself i want to upgrade cause just putt the new ish turbo in will be kinda dumb the things i am doing to my car will be pretty impresive i am doing alot of work but i shwo you all later |
It only costs 370 bucks in parts to rebuild an engine? If so...thats wickid |
DC450: That's a gasket set, nothing more... You sorta need rods and pistons and such to rebuild a motor ;) Nashman: I haven't even pulled the head off the old motor, I just ditched it behind a garage, haven't had much luck parting it out so far. |

Fuzebox: Damn, I knew your car was down for a bit I didn't think it was that long?!! Ouch. You went with a JDM block right? I was soo close to looking for a used GTE block & all the parts but I need to get my car back ASAP, Its sux bussing to work - especially if you're off after the busses stop running :( |

CAM COVER BOLT UPGRADE get some plated M6 x 30mm bolts (12) and at least 1 lockwasher for each one (12/24) |
nickel plated? I think I'm currently using M6 bolts as license plate bolts :) |
hah, sorry fuzebox i just hadnt seen you post in awhile so i wasnt sure i think im gonna get some of the hex bolts next time im at lordco... i think one of my next projects will be to polish the valve covers. err... that and a shitload of other stuff ive been meaning to do. just noticed too that my front right fog lamp is full of water too, guess i cracked the housing going on my little new years day journey... guess its time to throw in the matrix foglights ive had collecting dust for like 2 years |
new pistons to rebuild and engine? damn, didn't think you had to do that much to rebuild and engine. I thought it might just be honing/gaskets/piston rngs/valve springs... didn't know you had to put in new components.. but that wouldn't only be if they were unuseable..... correct? forgive my piston engine stupiditiy i'm more of a rotor man! |
for a FRESH rebuild, everything is replaced. rods, pistons, bearings, all seals and gaskets. however, you can rebuild reusing the stock pistons, etc if they are in good shape. beverages.... good stuff... |
i miss my car so one give me there supra so i can drive it |
Hey toby, are these the bolts you were talking about? http://cjsupra.kendra.com/Hexupgr.html I was looking through some of my old bookmarks and came across this. |
yup, those are it. you dont have to coat them or anything unless you get unplated bolts. i just went to lordco, told them what i needed and what i was usin it for, $1.36 (i think), cheap easy upgrade. |
Well I got some Champion coppers instead of the NGK platinums - how long do you think they'll last before I should change them again? Also looked at Lordco, Baker Supply, and Home Depot for stainless steel M6 30mm bolts & locking washers - they had Galvanized (nickel plated) bolts but not stainless - I was finally referred to a Marine parts store that carries them. 50c/bolt and 12c/washer. They are made of 316 Stainless Steel. I'm gonna pick them up tomorrow if anyone else wants them. |
stainless is good, but uncoated stainless will react with the aluminum head. they HAVE to be coated/plated. nickel plated is fine. |
well when i when to get new plugs i looked at the copper and said naa to my self and pick uo the g power ones suppost to be better then the copper ngk ones for spark wise so that why i did not go copper plsu there were 2 bucks more i gona be getting my turbo rebuilt by ADP in van so as soon as i get my crap to togetter replace the stems and get rip fo that nasty tic as well |
oddly enough i think my car is firing better with the champion plugs and stock wires, instead of NGK's and Aurora plugs... guess i'll have to try the aurora's again, or get some new ones hey ryan, what trim you going for? or just a rebuild? |
well oil change and spark plugs 5 and 6 installed today, did some other tweaking to other stuff now to replace the damn foglights..... i yanked the fuse for foglights, then uhh... the foglights went off but so did the gauge cluster and other interior lights. so i put it back in... ive figured if i start my car, turn on the headlights, then leave them up, turn the car off. then turn the car on later (with the lights still up) the main headlights will come on without the foglights.... i just think it looks gay to drive around with one foglight |
cant you turn your foglights off? i can |
57 whiht delta 2k wheel but still looking in to it i amnot going to play whihteh exhuast wheel at all i was thinking on triming it but really not worth it |
well so far so good on the supra gona do teh head crap soon mostly clenaing stuff up i am ditching the carcol canster as well mostly caus ei am to lazy to put it back on and stuff hehehh reped out all the secoures for th ac system so i don't get a code say the switch for my ac system is broke all so replaceing some hose's as well |
