The entire harness has been cut in half and now spliced together. If i cant find a good used harness then i might have to fix the splice job on this one but i really dont want to have to leave it this way, its so backyard.

I might, well put it this way, im going to finish splicing it regardless just to get it running, then once i know it runs i will worry about the new harness. Where do you get that book? Does the dealer still carry them for that far back?

Its pretty sweet, i got the odd spare engine part with the supra from the kid, he stripped his old motor. Its too bad that the turbo on this wrecker motor was seized otherwise i would have had a spare turbo too. But i did end up snagging a spare intake manifold and runners along with some other various parts. valve/cam covers and things like that. I cant even remember what all i have now. I have to take them all to work tomorrow or whenever and clean them all up though.

Hey, someone here has replaced their front speakers with 6.5 in the stock locations, right?
I need some help... I got a set coming with 6.5 mids and 4" mid-range. I'm trying to figure out if I can fit the 6.5 in the stock location? The mounting depth is kinda deep, just under 3 inches, 2 7/8ths I think. I know there's lots of room after you take out that stupid black enclosure dealie. ANyone done it before/know any specifics?
Thanks!

Yeah, cool. Thanks dude. I figured I coult fit the 6.5 in the door. But I really want to put my 4 inch midrange there. I have a 3-way system and I want it to sound good... don't want to end up with a shitty install after spending so much money on the speakers.
I think I'm gonna try and get the 6.5 mounted somewhere by the kickpanels. Shawndude said he managed to get 8 inch midbass drivers somewhere up there by the kicks. I think I might persue that.
But I know if it comes down to it then, that the 6.5 will fit in the stock location. Thanks for the info. I knew that 6 would be no problem, hoping 6.5 wouldn't either. DO you remember the mounting depth on the Bostons? Did you have a lot of room? Cuz my CDTs are like 3 inches deep.

yae when i was into audio i have all the neato tricks to these cars as in how to make the most bass and most clear sound you can
the best place to put tweet is right wre the mirro is where the triangle is
then the use nice 4 inc in the stock loction i used pokes tpo give nice mid tone
then a 6 inc drive or 8 inc the 8 cna fit but you have to hack some of the inner dor away a 6 will do fine
then run a nice 8 in th rear int he back seat are ont he trinlge thigns
then run 2 nice 12's
and use haked the rear tops thnigs ont eh stock speaker puts i poped a kappa plate in there i fidn the plate give you nice mids and the nice tweet to clear thous the bass and such
any wya i know how ot make the sup sound good i hit 151 db in my old setup wiht just 2 12's supra are really good for bass

Yeah,
I'm not really into all the bass. I have 2 CDT 10inch SQ subs, and they are perfect. I just wanted new speakers, because having a 4inch up front really sucks for midbass, and putting mid-bass behind you really makes it sound like crap, you need the sound coming from in front of you.
I found out a good spot to put the 6 inchers, there's a cavity right after the kickpanels, between the carpet and the firewall, right after the kickpanels. Shawndude said he fit 8" midbass in there.
You say that you fit 4inch in the stock location, and 6 inch also in the door? This is interesting!
As for putting the tweeters in the triagle, I am going to, only if I can flush mount it. Otherwise, they are getting flushed into the a-pillars. I don't want anything sticking out, I don't want it to be an eyesore. Most of all, I want it to look inconspicous and just sound good. I guess it doesn't really matter where the 6.5 goes, as long as it's not being covered by my legs or feet. If it can go in the door, without sticking out too much I might try that.
And yeah, Supra's are pretty good for bass But I don't liek when stuff starts rattling. I'm gonna get a good EQ next, and set the cut-off at 45hz. I think that's the resonance in our cars, anyone know for sure?
I don't know why I waste so much money on stereo stuff. It's funny, the car is bone stock, not even running right now, I fired it up a while ago, noticed a small exhaust leak at the manifold. I don't want to spend money to fix it, because I am broke, but I can still buy speakers for a car i'm not even driving.... fuck I am stupid.

im in the process of putting my tweets in the little triangles.... but the mounts are easy to break, and theres no room to stuff wiring in there.... if i get off my ass and aim them, ill fiberglass them all in.... i was actually thinking, if i can make a nice set, send them to duane and get him to make them in CF for people....

there,s no room behind them for wiring? Looked like there was plenty to me. I sort of have a crappy pair of tweeters that stuck on the triangles yesterday with 2-way tape just to see what it sounded like. Wasn't too bad, considering that they were crap, and 3/4" metal dome.
I got a 1inch silk dome coming, and I belive that it also swivles, so it should be a slice aiming them. I'm just worried about the damn mids.
Enraged, if you have pics of your setup, send them over! reubenc@telus.net |
