Ive left the plugs out lastnight so it should be good today, but i probably wont be back down there tonight anyways. I will do another compression test tomorrow when i go down. I should have a more accurate reading this time with all the fuel evaporated now. I decided that i will probably end up doing a complete rebuild anyways, just for peace of mind. I will get new mains and big end con rod bearings and at least a set of rings, but probably pistons as well. I will see how they look when i get them out. Im thinking of getting the car repainted once im all done the engine depending on cash flow lol, but we will see when the time comes. I would really like to get it painted black, even though it is a pretty neat charcoal kinda color now but the paint has quite a few little nicks and scratches throughout it.
well the cool thing about 7ms is they have no clear coat so you can wet sand em away sweet eh

some of the clours did come clear coated thou i forget wiht at one i knwo the white ones don't nore does black and gay as well same wiht blue but i don't knw9o about tan

as for piston i highly dought you will have to replace em

in less you ring broek and stuff

ps when doing comp test do it dry and jump the termials but you have no power so just take the fuel pumps fuse out the do ti

Slate 85GTS 02-17-2004 10:34 PM

Enraged 02-17-2004 11:42 PM

Slate 85GTS 02-18-2004 12:41 AM

and he meant jump the diagnostic block with a wire from T to E1, so the ECU isnt constantely changing things.... timing, etc

Slate 85GTS 02-18-2004 06:53 PM

oh ok, thanks paradox. I also discovered some shaft play in my turbo during the teardown, so i guess i will have to get it rebuilt as well. Doh... this is going to get expensive, fast! lol oh well it should be a fun car when its all done :)

Enraged 02-18-2004 09:04 PM

get it upgraded! hehe

go with a 54 trim, unclipped. not too big, but will flow a bit more than stock.

Paradox 02-18-2004 09:12 PM

54 trim has been proven to bring the most bang for the buck, and quick spool.... so i agree, unless you want huge HP #'s

Enraged 02-18-2004 09:29 PM

am i ever wrong?

well... yes, but rarely.

Paradox 02-18-2004 09:54 PM

true enough, but atleast when you are wrong you have the balls to admit it.... ;)

Slate 85GTS 02-18-2004 10:10 PM

Haha right on guys, thanks. I have thought about upgrading it, but i can probably get the stock one rebuilt for fairly cheap from a guy i know. Just out of curiousity though how much roughly would this 54 trim upgrade cost?

Enraged 02-18-2004 11:09 PM

$500-$1000, depending on where you get it done.

Paradox 02-18-2004 11:54 PM

toby were'd ya go? we just got into some neat races there....

Oh my gosh you guys, as if he needs MORE ways to spend money on that car!! You are going to be broke for a long time! Sigh...

At least it will be a brand new car by the time you're done.

Chances are you can get it rebuilt for next to nothing (if anything at all). In which case, I think you should just leave it stock for now. You can always upgrade later, y'know.. when it actually runs? :p But seriously if you do all this stuff before you even drive it, you're not going to have anything to look forward to! Then you'll end up crazy like that guy with 750+hp or whatever it was. Haha.

Back to the reason of this post. You may as well redo the interior black while we're throwing money around. :p You already have to replace the door panels and carpet. I wouldn't bother replacing that stuff right away though just so you don't tie yourself to that tan. It's just that sitting here thinking about it, red as an accent color isn't really working with tan in my head.

Basically my point was, rebuild the engine first and get most of the bigger things like a BOV, secondly I'd take care of the body work, then leave the interior looking like shit until the very last.

Paradox 02-19-2004 09:05 AM

paint/dye the interior, i did.. well i started the project, then gave up at the dash, didnt wanna yank it just yet

only cost me like 30 bux in paint and its held up great for over a year

NashMan 02-19-2004 11:54 AM

remmber ebvery turbo has some shaft play so it might not be bad in any way you cna do test to see if it is dead when it is off the of the car

as in rebuilding the turbo

500 ucsk just for rebuild
950 for a new cold side what ever compser you chose

as in the 54 trim is is the bes compsure to match the hot side but fuck that just go bigger and have tad more lag a 54 trim will be just like stock wit just little mroe kick to it stock is 38 trim or some thgini i forget and such

but cheak out your turbo frist

Slate 85GTS 02-19-2004 05:06 PM

ya well im not going to do anything with it unless its toast for sure, ive gotta find out how much play is acceptable though because im not sure how much they can have.

Would a '86.5 AFM from an N/A Supra work for my '87 Turbo Supra?

Nope. Its a totally different design. The Karman Vortex measures the ionized air around a wire I believe, while the NA just has a flapper door that gets pulled open by air pressure/vaccuum.
