So im sending out my turbo to be completley rebuilt, seals, bearings, rebalanced, everything! Should be all nice and tight when i get it back. And ive got the engine out of the car now and sitting on the ground. So i guess im going to have to start ordering some parts for it and get on that rebuild. It wont get itself done lol.

TouringTeg 02-22-2004 06:20 PM

man you guys really like the hks SSBOV . I undestand seems like everyone with sr swaps runs them as well they are one of the best. damn slate it would be perfect time for an upgraded turbo instead :D

Enraged 02-22-2004 07:19 PM

Im getting the turbo rebuilt from a good friend of my gf's dad. He rebuilds them for a living, mostly diesel turbos but he does do them all. He is on the mainland though and has all the equipment to rebalance it and everything when hes done :)

Enraged 02-23-2004 07:40 PM

ok, since the engine is going to be apart, and i really miss driving my car, im goin to do a bunch of cleaning and painting while its apart.

any of you know some good quality high temp paint? i might get my valvecovers powdercoated, and maybe some other stuff, not sure yet.

ill probably start taking the car apart this week, hopefully have the head off in 2 weeks or so.

Paradox 02-23-2004 08:48 PM

i just used hi-temp napa paint, even on my brake calipers... its held up pretty well for over a year

as for powdercoating, make sure ya yank a bunch of shit off your car to get done at once, since they charge per batch, not per items.. so like 1 item would be the same price as like 4

i want to get some of this other paint that is like a fake anodized sorta look to do my PS reservoir and some other small things, but ive heard it isnt so great with heat, even the hi-temp stuff.

id get in there with some simple green, a rag and some water, go nuts cleaning by hand, then use some silicon based lubricants on the plastics, polish up anything else you think needs it. then hope to hell little critters like rats and mice dont come poop in your bay when its done :p

Enraged 02-23-2004 09:19 PM

ya, i found some good quality high-temp paint at eastwoodco.com i might buy, then maybe get some stuff powdercoated. might paint my engine bay black too, not sure yet.

Slate 85GTS 02-23-2004 09:20 PM

where do you guys take your stuff to be powdercoated and how much does it cost per batch?

Enraged 02-23-2004 09:26 PM

i was going to go to the place in sidney that does it, not sure how much they charge though.

at the moment im thinking valve covers, throttle linkage bits, PS resevoir and bracket, and some more misc peices. gotta see how much it will be....

Damnit, I am banning you from this thread! :p

Oh ya, and if you're going to powder coat stuff, take the Celi with you. :)

Enraged 02-23-2004 09:35 PM

im goin to call tomorrow to ask, they usually say bring it in for an estimate though, since pricing is based on size, prep work, etc. you can save yourself a bunch of money if the part is clean, smooth, etc

Enraged 02-23-2004 09:37 PM

anyone have an old oven we can bake parts in? hehe

not anymore.. i junked my old one

Enraged 02-24-2004 11:22 AM

i called around, looks like it would be around $40/valve cover (but thats for a small block v8 valve cover) to get the valvecovers done, a bit more if its a color they dont have in stock. 2-3 day turnaround time...

he said if i bring it in degreased and sanded a bit, the price will go down

so what color do you think i should do? im thinking gloss black and a bright silver....

Paradox 02-24-2004 05:39 PM

a color that'll match your car inside and out, no matter what....

id say black or silver, but if you're going to do a color, maybe a dark'ish red or something?
