Yea mine are going CLACK CLACK CLACK...so I'm just gonna put it off till I eventually rebuild the engine. hurrah. (could be many many many months from now)

I need to put new valve seals in too... yay for blue on startup. Maybe I'll do my shims then.

Car also scared the shit out of me in rush hour traffic last thursday... I think one of my injectors got stuck becuse the car was real stuttery sounding. Got better once it was warmer outside later on that day.

NashMan 09-12-2006 08:39 PM

if one of your injectors got stuck then you have big issues i bet it was just being cranky

fletch 09-12-2006 10:21 PM

instead of re-shimming old springs would it make more sense to buy some new ones/ maybe upgrade. friend of mine seems to think that wouldn't be too expensive. Opinions?

islandsupra 09-12-2006 10:35 PM

test your springs frist it take alot of milage to sofen them up

like 300 plus or a hole life of beat to death type thingy

as for buy better spring you can buy comp cam ones but there seat persure is alot more then stock were out your cams faster and there the cheepest ones you can get wheil useing the stock retainers

as for shims buy what you need

arturiusma7 09-24-2006 08:26 PM

well Supra is staying with me.. not selling it anymore.. annnd now i have a list of stuff going to be purchased in the next couple months!!

crower 272/272 cams or 264/264 i dunno yet, springs, retainers, .5mm oversized stainless valves. hks 2mm stopper hg, toda main and rod bearings, arp head studs, greddy timing belt, toyota rings... i think thats it :) and this wont be done till prolly april.. but itll be done for summer anyways :) hopefully on full standlone too...

Enraged 09-24-2006 10:38 PM

pistons? sounds like your building something fun :)

arturiusma7 09-25-2006 01:18 PM

ive been contemplating pistons.. what will the stock ones support? running on full standalone so it will be tuned.. and yea it will be a project of making it reliable this year, then power next year :)

NashMan 09-25-2006 05:27 PM

TobyCat 09-25-2006 10:33 PM

The money I save on insurance+gas pays for my daily driver. A supra isn't very practical going to/from UVic everyday.

Besides, this gives me time to take stuff apart =)

NashMan 09-26-2006 06:51 AM

and hope fully put it back togetter

arturiusma7 09-26-2006 08:36 AM

yea but like i told u ryan, my motor has 200k km on it. so the rings are going to need replacing. id rather have a motor that runs perfect rather then one that just is good enough to run. if its all apart i might as well replace whatever needs to be replaced. i dont care about money much.

fletch 09-26-2006 11:32 AM

I bought a turbo, it should be here sometime this week. I'll need to order a gasket set and some shims and then I'll pull things apart and get to work. i was looking at shims and they come in different sizes, do I need to measure before I buy?

The engine work is going to wait until I'm done my body work, all the dents and dings have been pulled and filled, I have one dint in the roof to get out and I'll be primering my car. After that it will at least be waterproof!
I like doing this myself, I have the guys at my work helping me out and showing me how at first but it's an awesome feeling of accomplishment once I've made a dent dissapear and feather edged chips, etc.

Mine aint coming off the road...and you got way more money to spend on car than I do...

I take the BUS since its FREE.

TobyCat 09-26-2006 02:59 PM

Double the gas milage on a tercel is pretty sweet though :)

fletch: yeah, you should measure before you buy. I was reading the TSRM last night and it suggests to shuffle around the shims you know need replacing to ones that need that height...seems kind of obvious now after reading it :)

What's your time frame on needing shims? I will be doing the valve lash on if not redoing the whole head in a month or two...could order some shims and save on postage.

fletch 09-26-2006 10:26 PM

^That would be cool toby. I've never done it before i'll have to get to reading. I'm planning on taking everything apart all at once so I'm waiting until I have my turbo and manifold gasket but that won't be long. I'm not in a huge rush so pretty much anytime in the next couple months. We should meet up sometime and figure things out.
cheers
