Yea mine are going CLACK CLACK CLACK...so I'm just gonna put it off till I eventually rebuild the engine. hurrah. (could be many many many months from now)

I need to put new valve seals in too... yay for blue on startup. Maybe I'll do my shims then.

Car also scared the shit out of me in rush hour traffic last thursday... I think one of my injectors got stuck becuse the car was real stuttery sounding. Got better once it was warmer outside later on that day.

instead of re-shimming old springs would it make more sense to buy some new ones/ maybe upgrade. friend of mine seems to think that wouldn't be too expensive. Opinions?

haha thats a bit of a difference. I guess I should've just checked, he works at napa and seemed to think he could get new springs for around $50. I think i'll stick with the shims for now.

test your springs frist it take alot of milage to sofen them up

like 300 plus or a hole life of beat to death type thingy

as for buy better spring you can buy comp cam ones but there seat persure is alot more then stock were out your cams faster and there the cheepest ones you can get wheil useing the stock retainers

as for shims buy what you need

The money I save on insurance+gas pays for my daily driver. A supra isn't very practical going to/from UVic everyday.

Besides, this gives me time to take stuff apart =)

yea but like i told u ryan, my motor has 200k km on it. so the rings are going to need replacing. id rather have a motor that runs perfect rather then one that just is good enough to run. if its all apart i might as well replace whatever needs to be replaced. i dont care about money much.

I bought a turbo, it should be here sometime this week. I'll need to order a gasket set and some shims and then I'll pull things apart and get to work. i was looking at shims and they come in different sizes, do I need to measure before I buy?

The engine work is going to wait until I'm done my body work, all the dents and dings have been pulled and filled, I have one dint in the roof to get out and I'll be primering my car. After that it will at least be waterproof!
I like doing this myself, I have the guys at my work helping me out and showing me how at first but it's an awesome feeling of accomplishment once I've made a dent dissapear and feather edged chips, etc.

Double the gas milage on a tercel is pretty sweet though

fletch: yeah, you should measure before you buy. I was reading the TSRM last night and it suggests to shuffle around the shims you know need replacing to ones that need that height...seems kind of obvious now after reading it

What's your time frame on needing shims? I will be doing the valve lash on if not redoing the whole head in a month or two...could order some shims and save on postage.

^That would be cool toby. I've never done it before i'll have to get to reading. I'm planning on taking everything apart all at once so I'm waiting until I have my turbo and manifold gasket but that won't be long. I'm not in a huge rush so pretty much anytime in the next couple months. We should meet up sometime and figure things out.
cheers
