| 89+, look at the spoiler on the back, how it sorta curves into the body is one way to tell, the spoilers beforehand werent connected on the sides.
also around the wheel wells its a little more curved..
Enraged, i hear ya man.. burgundy gets annoying. we need a cheap fix that doesnt look horrible... i'll let you paint your interior before i try it, haha |

What would you guys say are the 4 mods you should do first on a supra (aside from repairing it if stuff is wrong, tuning it up, etc)?
The ones I had in mind where:
1) BOV
2) Exhaust
3) Intake
4) Lowering
And don't tell me "why don't you buy a car first", I've heard that enough lately.

What years would you guys recommend? | His pics are from the front, that's why...
The 86.5-88 have a crappy spoiler that looks like it was tacked onto the trunklid as an afterthought, and hideous taillights...
89+ have a nice wraparound 3--piece spoiler, and much more attractive taillights.

And don't tell me "why don't you buy a car first", I've heard that enough lately. | 1) BOV!? Ricer. :P Blowoff valves sound cool, yes, but stock your performance won't be that impressive... Better to actually have a quick car with a BOV than just a stock 15 second car with a woosh between shifts...
Real list should be:
1) Metal Headgasket!
2) Downpipe (could be custom jobby with full exhaust)
3) Exhaust
4) Intake
5) Boost gauge
6) Boost controller
7) EGT or AF gauge

HEY!
main reason i got my HKS SSSBOV was becuase my stocker was broken, and i was planning to upgrade later on anyways, so i figured, why not? it wont hurt anything. and its a bit intimidating to people too hehe
heres my current stages:
1) boost gauge (stocker is crap)
2) bov
3) downpipe and full "offroad" exhaust, no cats, 3" mandrel bent
4) intake
also will be doing these over the summer i hope: complete hardpipes, electronic boost controller, upgraded IC, MHG and ARP bolts, lexus afm and 550s and S-AFC maybe.

How much should a good metal head gasket run, installed?
The HKS ones are about US$350-550, but that's just parts.

| machining will probably be a few hundred bux, then you've gotta deal with the rip down and tear apart of your engine.. could run over a grand fairly easy, unless you want to try to do it yourself. you should get ARP head bolts at the same time to keep the head tightened down, then you can run higher boost without fearing a BHG.
this's how id go about doing the mods in order..
1) HKS MHG / Arp Bolts
2) 3" catback & Downpipe
3) K&N FIPK
4) boost controller (running 11psi)
5) boost / EGT Gauges
6) decent lowering springs and struts, specially if you plan to put on bigger wheels.
you really dont need the BOV.. thats just for fun, id spend the money on other stuff first.
PS -- ive heard of people just ripping the top off of stock BOV's that dont vent to the atmosphere, would this work in a supra? this guy with a DSM did it and i guess it was loud as hell!

Well there are always exceptions I guess... I'll just tell anyone that if you're on a budget, buying an expensive loud BOV is a show-only mod... it's not going to help performance any more than the $50 Saab unit... And as you said, it sounds intimidating. Too bad on stock boost you'll get beaten by a stock GT Mustang... heres my current stages:
1) boost gauge (stocker is crap)
2) bov
3) downpipe and full "offroad" exhaust, no cats, 3" mandrel bent
4) intake

Similar to my mothers bf's (can't wait till I buy it... Can't put my car up for sale until I replace the stereo... grrrr)

i did all my modding in a rather strange order, but all in all it worked out fairly well....
1) 17" kosei wheels w/ yokohama rubber
2) 3" catback
3) brembo brake rotors
4) K&N FIPK
5) RT Downpipe
6) head gasket started leaking.... got HKS MHG / ARP Bolts
7) H&R Lowering springs
8) Cusco Strut bar
9) Lexus AFM
10) HKS SSBOV
11) Spearco I/C
12) Boost/EGT gauges
13) MKIV Fuel Pump
14) Rc 550's (not installed yet)
15) Greddy 20g turbo hopefully to be in mail sometime soon...
and shite, im not even using a boost controller yet, just a few washers on wastegate..... hehe time to raise up the boost!
do you guys think i can get away with the MKIV Fuel pump and 550's for now without a FPR? that Duane dude in vancouver said his stock FPR blew wide open when he did this... so he had to get a paxton FPR. im gonna try and find a cheaper alternative to the paxton, any ideas?

I'd probably just wait until it broke, like Duane.
