soo, last friday I start up my car and it starts this really nasty clicking sound...pretty loud. Turn it off. Check out under the hood, start it up again, same thing! As I'm poking around and the car is warming up it slowly started to go away.

So it does this now for about 1 minute every cold start. Not sure what it is, but it changes with RPM. Rad fan clutch maybe?

NashMan 02-24-2010 12:44 AM

clicking umm well that is new one but ummm fuck i don't know

got to give a bit more then that for any clue on what it is as is were it is coming form ect

Paradox 02-24-2010 04:03 AM

tobys car is running!?

Enraged 02-24-2010 11:00 AM

indeed

got the wiring terminals, so i can rebuild the ignition harness. forgot to connect the wideband to the maft pro, and i should install my electric fuel pressure gauge...then just have to put 2 more wheels on it and i can get it out of the garage. and ryan has to fix the fuel filter

some other minor things like taillight module and horn, interior bits, etc, but its pretty much driveable now.

also, i dropped the spare head off at JB yesterday for a resurface and to install the new valve springs and seals. Once I get it back I get to helicoil the exhaust studs, and get to learn how to reshim the cams! should be interesting.

and the car will need a major detail, anyone have recommendations where to take it?

Enraged 02-24-2010 11:05 AM

anyone else planning on going to PacNW Supra Nationals this year? July 16-18 on the mainland. I want to go, it would be great to have a caravan of island supras going.

everyone just needs to bug ryan to try and get his car done in time.

Renthal 02-24-2010 07:03 PM

heh i park in the same lot as ken olson..
he's got a nice silver supra that he babies
he drooled over my old red one

Enraged 02-25-2010 10:07 AM

wow, the head is already done, picking it up after work today.

and RYAN has to fix the FUEL FILTER

thanks Alex, what tools are they? going to be doing the shims on a desk, alot easier than in the car haha

mr_baboon 02-25-2010 11:52 AM

Its easiest to do the shims with the cams in (to avoid removing the cams over and over), so I've got the tool you need to push the springs down with the cam in allowing you to remove the shim.. I believe it's still in my garage. Once you compress the spring you juts pop the shim out with a small flat head. You'll also want a magnetic pickup tool.

Island_Yota 02-25-2010 06:34 PM

can't find.. for the W58?

all I see is ACT stuff.

mr_baboon 02-25-2010 08:52 PM

Oh... W58.... I'd ditch that asap... there's not very many good clutches for it since it breaks under power.

interesting sound i must say

interesting indeed could be a bunch of things sounds like bent vavle or shitty oil pump bad oil filter bloack paassge ect

is it down in power? rpm dependent

best thing to do is get screw drive and go along the vavle covrs tell you pin point the sound

all els fails you can just drive it over here and i can take a look at it

ps i hate head colds

Enraged 02-26-2010 08:13 AM

head $free
BBC valve springs $75
new valve seals $35
Helicoils $25
Ryans old cams $100
Machine work $237 (had to chamfer the head slightly to get the new springs in)
$472

not bad, the machinist said the head was in really good shape. only thing is I noticed scoring on the cams, on the journals where they are clamped by the cam caps. how much scoring is too much? the caps and the head are fine, it's the cams I'm not sure of.

mr_baboon 02-26-2010 09:19 AM

Post a pic of the scoring Toby

the just need a light sand and there good to go i can do it for if you like

Enraged 02-26-2010 03:00 PM

two of the journals, they are all similar to this. i know they can be fixed, but it might make the oil clearance too big. For #1 its 0.0014-0.0028, #2-7 is 0.0010-0.0037, max is 0.0051". i also don't want to ruin the journals on this head.

NashMan 02-26-2010 03:39 PM

were on cams is normal they just need light sand to take the high spots down they have been cheaked out by colt cams

i was going to run them but changed my mind and went big instead

Enraged 02-26-2010 05:08 PM

ill talk to the machine shop about polishing them, another option is to polish them then have them moly or teflon coated. i want to run them, and i dont want to pay $450 or whatever it is for BC cams... yet.
